Huawei explains how it achieved 7,680fps slow-motion video capture

24 September 2019
The process involves every component of the Kirin 990 chipset - ISP, CPU, GPU and NPU.

Its look more like max 980fps.... Just go to youtube and check how 7000fps slowmotion video look like using Chronos cameras.
It can record flying bullet.... Here we have typical advert video with some water and balls that look like 800-1000fps MAX

Weduz97, 24 Sep 2019i think, sony/samsung super slow motion at 960fps is better... moreI see no interpolation artifacts whatsoever from FHD 960fps slow mo videos from Mate 30 Pro, so I assume that Huawei is finally using DRAM for ultra fast readout on their phone just like Sony and Samsung. 7680fps ultra slow mo, however, is very hard to judge since it's way too slow to see if there's an interpolation involved or not(everything moving at normal speed literally look frozen at this frame rate). I hope someone will do the in-depth analysis for this feature.

The last Oracle, 24 Sep 2019Interesting. Though instead of 7,680fps, it looks more like... moreInterestingly enough, when one of the reporters from Gizmodo who was in the Mate 30 Pro announcement asked Huawei official if this is done through interpolation or not, they answered no.
This is not an English article so you have to use Google Translate, but I think it's worth reading.

Given what Huawei was doing with P20 Pro and its "super" slow motion, I'll still take it with a grain of salt, though. I'll believe it when someone else confirms that there's no interpolation artifacts for extremely fast moving object, until then I'll hold off on judgement.

This is some very basic frame interpolation code. Same thing as slowing down video to 120 or 240 fps

i think, sony/samsung super slow motion at 960fps is better, with stacked DRAM it produce real frame instead of interpolation.
Still need to see tech reviewer video on youtube

Oppaii, 24 Sep 2019Idk why but it doesn't feel like im watching a 7680fps slow... moreWouldn't be the first time

Idk why but it doesn't feel like im watching a 7680fps slow-mo video.

                Are they tricking us?

Interesting. Though instead of 7,680fps, it looks more like 980fps. And strangely interpolated. It's like a smartphone twixter trick, though dine very poorly.

This is going to be only decent and not great because of these reasons:

-You (probably) won't be able to change the bitrate
-You (probably) won't be able to change the shutter angle
-You (probably) won't be able to change the ISO
                    -Very short record time
                    -720p only
-File outputs at 30fps and you (probably) won't be able to change the output frame rate which means that you won't get as much slow motion (7,680fps played at 30fps is 256x times slower than real life and 7,680 played at 24fps is 320x times slower than real life).
-No sound recording (probably, however sound recording is not to be expected at such high frame rates).

I mentioned a lot of things as "probably" because they are not to be expected. But maybe I'm wrong. But, I think this is a step to the right direction. Personally, I want to see 2K/3K/4K slow motion more than a higher frame rate.

Looks very fake. They faked it before, they will fake it again. 960 fps at max

Marco M, 24 Sep 2019"That’s 945 frames captured at 720p resolution. " Except... morei dunno about you but the quality is quite good when i'm watching it.

                            Just amazing

                              "That’s 945 frames captured at 720p resolution. "

Except I have to scale it to a 360p window to get it looking sharp. . . at 720p it's very soft/blurry.

I don't care about 7,680fps in that low quality, how about in good quality? 1920fps should be possible.

A company with an exec named Bruce Lee you can only respect

Regardless of how they acheived it the quality is what matters the most and the quality is absolutely stunning for a smartphone way ahead of any competition! Finally they have compensated their shaky slow mo quality of previous gen Huawei devices! Kudos

                                    Regular slow motion only.
