            1. 8k has been introduced some-when about 2009, the collaboration of BBC NHK RAI
            2. 8k portable media players and 8k tv-s ... where are they now? not so common
            3. where are the native 4k 144hz phone display ???
            4. how much the 8k laptop cost???

unless industry push both hardwares and softwares, 8k in 2020 will not be accessible to majority of people

To record proper 8k footage, a phone would need 33.2 MP native sensor (quad-bayer sensors wouldn't produce proper result, unless they pixel-bin from 132.8 MP quad-bayer sensor) along with a SoC that supports 8k/30fps recording (currently only the latest Exynos supports it).

In any case, it's about time 8k/30fps video recording becomes a supported feature on current flagships. Whether you use it or not is upto you, but a 2019/2020 flagship should be having the feature in my opinion.

Every frame of 8k video would be 33MP worth of image, truly impressive!

Xiaomi work on your camera first before giving us 8k .....Your camera can't compete with OnePlus talkless of Huawei Samsung and iPhone ...I guess most people don't care because of Gcam and unlock boatloader ..that's why you don't want to improve on Ur cam..... anyway what did I know ? *Wink*

For now I don't need 8k either but if chip capable they're just moving forward, Sammy has it... Next year's Mi 10 ? It's an anniversary it should pack a lot.

So can I record a 8k video and then downsize it to 4k with better quality?

They'd better add Ois instead smh no need for this gimmick. Also, please don't use curved displays -_-

8k on a 6" or 7" screen does not make sense, Its just pure business, They are all earning money by simply adding little more features to the phones

Anonymous, 26 Sep 2019There is no point of 8k recording on a phone at this time. ... moreSure you may think so, but technology is PROACTIVE

Lasers were invented years before we could practically use it to measure atoms mass etc

Completely unnecessary, even 4k is unnecessary

                                    CPU has to support this.
If it does not, will be upscale like that Nubia.
