Huawei Mate X 2 to have a stylus, patent reveals

26 September 2019
A flat stylus would go in a hold where the USB-C port currently is.

None of these displays stretch, they just bend, but the way they bend is different. Very different.

A screen protector would potetianlly damage the display. And it wouldn't handle the rough bend very well.

The design of the Huawei is completely different and should have no issue using a screen protector. If it for some reason suffers the same faith then it should also suffer the same recommendation as the Galaxy, do not buy.

This stands both ways, no matter the screen has the larger curve or the protector, there will be shear stress between them.

And it could damage the display if used as there isn't any space for is as it folds inwards. The Huawei does not fold inwards and should therefore not have to suffer the same limitation.

In my experience with styluses (styli?) is that the hard plastic nibs like the ones on the Note or the Surface Pro work better for writing and especially drawing. Or maybe I just didn't get used to the rubber tips. But I guess that could be a solution since we don't have foldable glass yet and Huawei could make the tips thinner. Kinda excited now what they'll come up with.

Mate X hasn't released yet and you already knew that screen protectors can be used on the Mate X and also the crease difference between the two.

[deleted post]Maybe on a handheld, but the first stylus in a computing device was in 1957, the Styalator. Loads of Pen PCs in the 80's running MS-DOS and in 92 came Windows for Pen Computing.

Most smartphones in the end of the 90s and early 2000s used styluses. It made sense with their small screens and our big fingers.

It also shouldn't prevent screen protectors being used, unlike the galaxy fold.

A quote to remind you about the Party's tyranny:
"China’s ability to fire the CEO of Cathay Pacific shows how irrelevant it is to ask who technically owns Huawei. What matters is whether the state has effective control, not legal control, and we know the answer to that for any company in or even near China."

NipponFan, 26 Sep 2019Copying Samsung as usual. Gg huaweiThankfully no. Samsung's foldable phone folds inwards, giving you a tiny near useless second screen on the outside and a very visible crease on the fold as well as no support for screen protector. Using it in its unfolded state would be a pain.

Galaxy phone also has no stylus, if that was what you were referring to. Not that a stylus is a plus for med. I'd rather have them put just about anything else in a phone than a stylus.

This stylus going to have a soft silicone tip or something? Impossible if it is the typical stylus. Scratches going to damage it.

BigDisplay, 26 Sep 2019But hey, lets see how it goes irl or did you try it? We really don't need to try anything to figure out plastic is a soft material. So unless there's new material science regarding plastic out there (which, as of the moment, there is none), plastics and stylus still wouldn't play well with each other especially with heavy usage. Or maybe they're figuring out how to bend glass continuously without shattering it, and this patent is just for posterity when that time comes.
