Apple iPhone 11 Pro vs. iPhone X camera compare

28 September 2019
We figured you've already seen each and every iPhone 11 Pro vs. iPhone XS camera comparison, so we chose to go back in time an extra year and see how things have changed since the iPhone X.

I have an iPhone X. My husband has a Pixel 3. I’m thinking of upgrading to the iPhone 11 Pro. (Note to sarcastic people: I will not be getting a Pixel myself, or a Samsung. I said I was thinking about the 11 and that’s that. Moving on.)
My husbands phone takes AMAZING pictures in our dimly-lit home. Our house is like Amish-style, not a lot of light, but his photos are always fantastic. Mine are ALWAYS grainy and it’s annoying because I’m trying to capture my babies lives for keepsakes. This article doesn’t provide any dimly-lit normal-distance photos (only photos of buildings from afar are provided). Has anyone compared the X with the 11 Pro at a closer range in dim-light situations? Like a candle-lit dinner perhaps? I need to decide if the 11 Pro is worth the upgrade.

For example if a DSLR exposes for a very bright sky and chooses an exposure of 1/4000s, the dark trees can be really noisy. A smartphone can take different exposures. It can expose for the sky with 1/4000s at the same f number, but also expose for the dark trees with 1/60s. Then a smartphone captures more light from the trees than a full frame camera.
Due to multi frame noise reduction a smartphone also captures more light than a full frame camera, if you need the same depth of field in low-light conditions.
Many people who think that a large camera always produces better wide-angle results have no clue about physics. Regarding jpgs with automatic settings the best smartphone cameras produce much better wide-angle results than large cameras (apart from the resolution) also due to better white balance and tone mapping. You even don't need to pixel peep in order to see that the results are much worse.

YUKI93, 30 Sep 2019So true. Smartphone cameras will never achieve that DSLR or... moreNonsense. Image quality doesn't just mean sharper images. The look of an image doesn't depend on the resolution. That's why Instagram is successful. Certain smartphones have so much better image processing than large cameras that it can produce much better wide-angle photos (apart from the resolution). A large camera with 45 megapixels takes worse auto photos when it overexposes the sky (unless you really want to overexpose the sky). Then you get zero details of the sky. Then a full frame 45 megapixel image looks worse than the results of certain smartphone cameras and you even don't need to pixel peep in order to see that the blue sky is blown out and white. If you expose manually for the sky, the landscape will be too dark and again this is visible without pixel peeping. It's more important how an image looks as a whole than the details at pixel level. And smartphones definitely produce better images as a whole. This is also due to physics because smartphones can capture more light in the shadows due to multiple exposures.

It's on par with what Huawei is doing in its current state and Apple's processing is more complex and processor-intensive than Google's. I don't get why people glorify Pixel and its HDR+ as if nothing else in the market touches it, "miles ahead" yeah like hell it is.

"Apple and Samsung are pretty neck and neck due to the Samsung having an advantage in hardware, but Apple having an advantage in software"
Partially false. Apple and Samsung uses roughly the same hardware, Samsung has a very slight edge in the sensor size of ultra wide angle lens whereas Apple uses better quality lens for less distortion and uniformed sharpness across the frame for the main camera. The sensor sizes on the main and the telephoto cameras are identical between both devices. So Samsung does not really have any advantage in hardware department, it's just Apple is having a lead in software therefore their phones produce higher quality photos than Samsung's.

Got to admit that the 11 Pro looks better than the X. The oversharpening in the 11 Pro had dialled down a little compared to X. But when I use GSMArena's Photo Compare tool between the 11 Pro and the XS under 'Good light'*, I'm not sure if the 11 Pro looks any better than its last year's predecessor.

The Samsung does produce better shots at times, but far less consistent than what Apple is doing.

Gsmarena, could you test whether the tele camera performs.much better when you use a tripod in low-light? The iPhone detects the tripod, so theoretically the tele results should be perfect with a tripod in low-light conditions.

For sure one of the best night modes right now, despite the fact that took them a while, is the iphone’s video wise the transition between lenses is smoother on the iphone 11 pro and they also have the most stable cameras. Their video is way better than the samsung and pixel

iPhone 11 pro is slightly cool as compared to X's warmer look.
If u see it with Photoshop filters, the X's is too enhanced warm while the latest is more closer to what your eyes can see.
