Just buy a Mate 20 Pro instead. Or a P30 Pro. The photo samples I have seen from mate 30 are just oversaturated P30 photos. And the P30 Pro in comparison (for photos), didnt do better than the cheap and excellent Mate 20 Pro..
And the Mate 20 pro at least offers a true flagship 1440 P display, compared to the measly 1080P panel on the Mate 30 (and dont forget mono speaker, Netflix not in HD !)

What is hardware without software? Outside of China, I wouldn't be able to use this phone on daily basis. It would be just a very expensive compact camera with a limited list of apps. So, no I don't see a price justification for this phone. Not at all.

By your reasoning, most of the people using a PC should have Linux. But guess what? Linux is just a fraction of the os's used. The main ones are still Windows and iOS. Why? Because most of the people have no clue about tech, they just know how to edit some documents, open chrome and watch YouTube.
Those that have the knowledge are not enough to save this company.
May I ask what is your opinion about the fact that you are not allowed to unlock the bootloader on their phones?
Doesn't that conflict with the open-source philosophy of Android?? Isn't this proof enough for you?
whoawho can rott in hell for all I care. They can keep their locked spying replicas for themselves. I'm not interested one bit.
I'm not an apple fan at all, actually I'm 110% android power user, but in this case I'd rather have even an iPhone..

I want to buy Mate 30, when is it coming to South Africa?

Justsometime, 29 Sep 2019Some gapps can't open without Google service ,I had install... moreYou have to flash the required gaaps by opengaaps or the gaaps provided by the rom developer. If you follow the instructions properly everything works perfectly. For Huawei, the only method is via an app since the bootloader cannot be unlocked. That is the easiest method and works perfectly fine. You just have to install that app, open it, click the blue button and wait for it to download. After that, done! You have Google services. It's that simple.

Anonymous, 30 Sep 2019 You can unroot your phone to claim warranty easily. If and that's a big IF, you know what you are doing.

I don't know how to do it and therefore wouldn't try or risk it.

              Thanks anyway.

I wouldn't mind buying this phone despite without Google. I've been flashing and using custom Android ROMs without Google Play Services, particularly LineageOS, and it's not all bad.

Drop the price a bit? More like $350. Right now it's just a subpar point and shoot camera.

I don't think there is a duty free shop selling electronic at Beijing airport, but I could be wrong.

I occasionally check phone price listed on Huawei online store vmall and compare it with the recommended retail price of those models sold in Singapore. Usually for flagship models, the difference can be roughly 100 ~200 Singapore dollars.

                              The visible differences are:
                              1. Huawei phone in China is not loaded with Google apps, but with framework, many online tutorial teaches how to load gapps on Huawei phones without rooting.
                              2. Only 1 year warranty for Huawei phone sold in China, whereas default 2 years warranty given in Singapore.

I would say when you have 35% saying They Want To Buy...that's hardly considered to be "Not keen". Of course some people are going to be skeptical, just listen to all the fear mongering in the media. But the fact that 35% say "They would buy this Very Premium phone now", I think that's very positive. That's the great thing about being a techie, if we want something we know how to get it and make it work the way we want :-)

The Pro is a great phone...but a little expensive for me right now. I rarely buy tech when it first comes out...I like to wait at least six months or a year until the price drops significantly. I may also be in Beijing in January and April on connecting flights...maybe I can get a good deal in the Duty Free shop :-)

I don't see what all the hype is about google services either? You can install everything you want in less than 5 minutes. I watched the video 9to5google put out and it was easy. Super easy compared to getting the Google Play store on my Amazon FireOS tablets.

It's really sad to see all the political propaganda. Politicians really know how to manipulate us: Big American Tech Team against the Big Chinese Tech Team - You are either with us....or against us. Sound familiar? When I was growing up in the 70's it was the Japanese who were being defined as the evil copycats. I don't buy any of this BS...it's all propaganda. Bottom line is that over the past 25 years western society has benefited greatly from having their products produced cheaply by using cheap labour in Asia. And this was not a decision that was made by Asians, but by our own Western politicians. So it seems really hypocritical to be blaming them. And it's not like Economic Espionage isn't Big Time in the West....Like really! I think most of us are much, much, smarter than that....At least I hope so!

I've been against notch all this time, but somehow i like the design on Mate 30 Pro but not so much on the Mate 30. It's probably caused by the rounded corner screen.
Maybe at some point we'll have phone the screen so round that it looks like a disk rather than a phone.

Since the bootloader cannot be unlocked, the only way is via an app and it works perfectly fine without any errors. Check xda! And if you're talking about in general, you have to flash the required gaaps by opengaaps or the recommended version by the rom developer. Anything will work perfectly if you follow the instructions properly.

Worthless without Google services. I won't buy a €1100 phone which require many steps to make it somewhat functional
