    With EIS turned off, it wont change FOV when you switch between 4:3, 16:9 and 21:9.
    The 4:3 mode does not use all pixels of the width, then 16:9 does not use all vertically.
    Then there is no crop.

    You said right, EIS always crop.

        S and Note combined do not even reach 50 million.
        Tablet S do not sell as much as ipads.

          First and foremost you need to now that Xperia Cameras are about spot metering and not software HDR photo stacking in order to even out the brightness on the image. Just like regular camera you have spot metering and multi metering. Spot metering is about evenly lighting the subject in focus so blown out highlights in the background or dark areas in the background will appear and multi metering will try to even out the exposure levels across whole image.

          Auto camera mode:
          1) If you don't have object tracking turned on it will take pictures in Spot metering. You tap to focus on the subject and it will spot meter it.
          2) If you have object tracking turned on it will take pictures in Multi metering leveling the exposure.

          Manual camera mode:
          1) You get to pick the metering: Spot, Multi, Center, Face, Touch
          2) You have the ability to turn on HDR which comes in handy with high contrast situations
          3) If you are shooting low light make sure you pick Spot, you have Object Tracking turned on and you set Shutter speed to between 1/8 to 1/15. Pick the Object to track and it will be super sharp while shutter exposes the scene. I had pictures taken in low light where you can clearly read the text on the bottle label as I did Object Track on it.
          4) There is a big difference between Night Mode and Low Light photography. Xperia doesn't have Night Mode cause it doesn't do image stacking but instead it lets more light in and stabilizes the hand shake.

          Video (in general not just about Xperia):
          1) 1080p gets the most light in and no cropping
          2) 60fps modes, 4K always get cropped
          3) Stabilization lowers the image quality as it crops it, always try to shoot without stabilization.
          4) Xperia can shoot HLG HDR video which makes the most difference when viewed on UHD TV. Shoot some 4K HDR video in bright daylight and enjoy it on your TV. The biggest difference maker between Xperia, Galaxy S and all others.
          5) Xperia has quite a clean 1080p 960fps mode but it needs lots of light like sunny summer mid day.

                I hope they put at least 4500mah of battery this time. People these days do not care about the thickness of their phones. Lastly, I hope they do what ASUS did to their ROG Phone 2. Probably the best phone manufactured this year is the ROG Phone 2.

Planning on selling both, the SP is Android and the Lumia 540 doesn't have 1080p video recording. I've had both the 520 (my first phone, 30 July 2014 - 17 December 2015) and the 3GS (given to me for a short while before I gave it back, iOS 6 was too limited for me. I no longer care about app support as WP has the great MyTube app and messaging apps like: Line, Telegram, Viber and more. I downgraded my 540 using WP Internals. Working like a dream.

                    According to Wikipedia, the latest version of 8.1 is from June 2019, even though it was unsupported back in 2017. One great thing about WP, it's impossible to get viruses.

                        Im a die hard sony fans, currently using xz2 and waiting for the next proper xperia. TBH Im quite disappointed with xperia 1 & 5 especially in fingerprint reader. Why they still not moving to udfp? whats with that odd separate power button? I know they always late for party, they probably thinking optic is not good enough and waiting ultrasonic fp to be mature enough next year.

                          The last time I was aware, Xperia 5's 3100mAh battery lasted much longer than the Galaxy S10 with 3500mAh battery, all with roughly the same screen size.

                          F*** those 4000mAh batteries!
                          Galaxy S10+ got 4100mAh and still can't beat Xperia 5's 3100mAh battery - LITERALLY A 1000mAh LESS BATTERY PHONE OUTLASTED THAT PIECE OF CR** IN ENDURANCE DEPARTMENT FFS LMAO

                          It's like Sony could put out a 2000mAh battery on a 6.5" 8K HDR 21:9 OLED screen smartphone and still achieve no less than 80h endurance rating LMAO.
                          Meanwhile, Samsung could get all the necessary mAh's and still do worse than Sony - I guess that's an achievement on their part. Less is more, really.
