But, the bezel of the Microsoft Surface devices, they would need to work with a partner that can provide a better device that the early prototype. Just saying that cutting edge device is not their strength. Current Surface Laptop devices don't, yet, support for M.2 NVMe ssd, but if they did I would be more interested in them for the current price point.

Anonymous, 05 Oct 2019I'm disgusted with microsoft and their attitude towards win... moreI agree with you, I was (maybe still I'm) a staunch fan of Windows devices since the days of Bromide devices running Windows CE, through the days of Nokia Lumias to the days of Microsoft Lumias but Microsoft just isn't making their customers/fans feel any sense of "belonging" or "loyalty". It's just a pity!

Introducing the Neo and the Duo together is a mistake. They both have the same form factor but run different OS and apps. The average consumer will be confused and it will backfire for Microsoft. This makes no sense. Microsoft has an OS that would work with this device. Why wouldn't they use it?

2. Don't expect highest quality cameras. Surface Duo when unfolded will be max 7 mm thick, meaning the biggest sensors and their optics won't fit. Nokia 808 Pureview was 14 mm thick to fit the camera. Surface Duo will be max 14 mm when folded.
3. They might fit that and probably will. I don't think they will let the tablet mode suffer from bad audio.
4. No, they won't. They won't do longer support than Google does, since they'll use Android. And I think they'll do the same as any other manufacturer - meaning 2 years and eventually some crucial security updates after that.
Surface Duo is not a device for everyone. It will definitely cost more than any other "regular" flagship and is made for productivity on the go. It might even be bundled with the Pen, since there will be support for it.
This is purely a tool, with smartphone capabilities as an add-on. Don't think of it as any other flagship. This is what Galaxy Note was supposed to be in the beginning.

I agree that this is the most interesting new form factor on a phone in a long time (yes it's not an original idea, but this seems so much better done than anyone else who has tried this).
My questions are:
1) Will it be possible to unlock the bootloader (and therefore root the phone)?
2) What will the quality of the camera be? Will it be on a par with flagship devices (OIS, large sensor, etc.). Really with such a large device, this is a real opportunity to put a really large high quality camera sensor in it. Even something on a par with the 1/1.2 sensor in the Nokia 808, which remains the largest sensor ever put in a phone. Although given the thinness of each side of the device, maybe they will want to avoid a camera hump and so actually there will be a really lame camera sensor in it. That would be a shame.
3) Will it have stereo speakers? I looks like from the images there is just the single earpiece on the front of one of the screens. With those huge bezels it would be a waste not to have good stereo speakers. A device like this ought to be good at media (movies, games).
4) Will Microsoft be on top of montly security updates and will they provide security updates for longer than Google's lame 3 years of support? They should at least match Apple's 5 years. Indeed, for what will likely be a very expensive device, even longer would not be unreasonable--more like the ten years one gets on the desktop.
If Microsoft can get those things right--bootloader unlocking, flagship quality camera, stereo speakers, long term regular security updates--they will have an amazing device. Otherwise, it will be an interesting device for some purposes, but a step backwards for others. If it's really going to replace your phone and presumably it will be very expensive, then it needs to be as good as the best phones, in every way, and more.

It may be a good idea, but this has really huge bezels which make it to look kinda ugly and bulky. And a foldable screen would have been the perfect solution.

LG and ZTE released it only now and they are no way close to providing the finesse and panache of Microsoft. LG's concept too is still out there in the woods. It hasn't delivered phones out there for the public to use and same is the case with ZTE. They were the ones to copy Microsoft and not the other way around.

it's not so much about the software, rather the hardware that i will eagerly look forward to. microsoft has been coming out with interesting and beautiful designs on surface products. sure, it's a copy of previous takes of other oems on the dual-screen form factor, but most likely this is not the final design.

More like a dual screen laptop. This concept has been proven unpopular so many times. Microsoft should just go with a normal phone.

This looks like a solidly engineered product and comes across as almost "Applesque" in build quality (the positive Apple build aspects). Current foldable phone screens seem to make too many compromises in screen durability in order to have that seamless screen and generally had me going "Meh" when they were announced. But this, it just looks right and I want it . . . . for the right price.

I think I like this. I always do 2 things back and forth on my phone and it sometimes frustrated. So this 2 screens might able to work more seamlessly and intuitively. On the side note, I noticed the screen eventhough is 5.6 inches, it actually look big and wider than today skinny tall screen. It probably good for gba, snes emulators which I play most of the time. I'm waiting for sd865+ surface duo.
