It's opportunitites like these that developers should look at, setting up their own eco system, publishing a few designated products a year with quaterly updates.
Microsoft, is basioally, throwing you a gift. Windows phone 7, lacks any real punch, and will be outperformed for years to come by IOS, and even android, which is currently very scattie [all over the place]
the main issues from windows 6.1 6.5, was multi tasking and the resolution limitation of 65k, speed was not really a massive issue, because it the handset rarely hanged going from the start menu to setting or programs, or when actaully using majoirty of third party software.

The purpose of every business is to create and maintain the customers. What does the Microsoft by killing the Marketplace for WM? Are they doing business? I believe they don't!

"Killing the application store of an OS means the end of the OS itself, so R.I.P. Windows Mobile."
What? O.o. Do you use your phone for the apps? wtf.

Ghori, 09 Mar 2012Hey, I have SonyEricsson ASPEN with windows mobile 6.5... ... morethere are many apps and ui floating around the web. although sony aspen wont play nice with all (largely due to screen res) it can definitely perform task any other modern smartphones OS can. wm is a very matured os with great capability. only problem is developer is abandoning it so juz dun expect new versions of softwares like opera and skype.

Still using WM6.5.3 on my HD2. Closing Market no real issue as never used it anyway. built up my apps since before the birth of market place & sideloading as it is now called was the common practice. WM is superb & well setup still makes Gingerbread look a half arsed setup. Only problem was slow OS development, microsofts lack of phone markets OS needs & not enough control over networks loading a load of crap in the ROMs & causing a large portion of the users issues.
I will keep on using it & as have hundreds of apps still available online from dev site & in my own install file collection will keep on going until hardware dictates a change. And that change currently is not for the better.

Ruwin, 09 Mar 2012You really just dont get it or you're to lazy to study this... moreand regardless what we're fight in here (compatible or not), I believe there is no way MS should treat their current customer like that.
If I just bought either a BRAND NEW or USED WM 6/6.5 a couple of month (let say 2 weeks, or 2 months, or 4 months), I will be very pissed off, and never buy a Microsoft Phone again.

Anonymous, 09 Mar 2012You were the one that lazy and spread the wrong rumors.
... moreoppps...
wrong cut and paste
here is the quote:
as opposed to the Windows CE kernel currently in use. This won’t affect application compatibility — all existing WP7 apps will work on WP8 — but it will usher in support for native code,
which mean:
Apps created with WP7 will run on WP8. But MS will urge developer to create in native WP8 mode. That's mean, after a while WP7 will be left behind, and MS will said that it will a burden to keep WP7.

from here: http://www.extremetech.com/computing/116819-windows-phone-8-detailed-its-like-windows-8-but-not-quite
quote:
While Microsoft says that Windows 8 apps won’t be directly compatible with Windows Phone 8, developers will be able to “reuse — by far — most of their code.”
again... that's also mean that supporting apps for wP7 would be a burdern after WP8 come out. and we will see MS kick WP7 user in the butt
