They use a newer chipset and feature an AI-powered image upscaler. They can also be the hubs of your smart home.

As far as I know, there is nothing Pro about this. I've got one. Thia pro is too much like the old non pro version with an overclock. These guys have little idea how to design an proper AV machine with "proper" software. I've had heaps of issues from how the software was designed. Setting up picture and sound is very limited, still.

They have silicon up there with latest high end game consoles, but refuse to release it in a shield. Been waiting fur 3 years for that, but instead, more of the same.

Not happy. They could have at least given a bigger better machine.

ravsun, 18 Oct 2019I guess it's a noob question but Dolby Vision HDR, AI Upsca... moreThe new SoC looks like the Switch's Tegra X1 16nm die shrink. Technically that means those new features are compatible with older Shield TV models but may run hotter.

The bigfest issue on shield console is the store. you dont have access to google play store. And if they dont update the game when the new uoate comes. Good Luck. Remember the same happened with Modenr combat 5 game. I hate shield because it was supposed to be a console byt instead you get a library of 100 casual 2d ... games..

I guess it's a noob question but Dolby Vision HDR, AI Upscaler & Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus audio decoding should be available (via OTA upgrades) to the previous-gen Shield TV too, right? Or is there a hardware component to these features?
