D8Sen, 13 Mar 2012It's Sony branded smartphone. I wonder why in the back cove... moreSony and Ericsson didn't split up. Sony bought Ericsson's share so everything that was of Sony ericsson is now of Sony mobile, including that logo. That logo is a legend, and many people still don't know that Sony ericsson is gone, so i think it's good to keep that iconic logo on "just Sony" phones.

correct me if my educated guess is wrong.

As a loyal sony fan, I should really stop reading some of these garbage comments by people being so negative.

In my opinion, this is bringing some great features, which SONY have developed and delivering it on a device accessable for everyone.

I think the floating touch is awesome, I dont care who 'invented it' the point is, Sony will let me 'Use it'.

Qw, 13 Mar 2012What innovation??????? Floating touch would be similar to ... moreThe only reason you'd prefer any AMOLED screens over standard TFT LCDs of their different variants is if you like oversaturated colours

There's a reason why graphic artists and photographers go for screens calibrated to not look oversaturated and avoid screens which look overly vibrant in the market (though no AMOLED monitors exist in the market as of now)

Natural looking screens stay well within the 100% NTSC colour gamut limit, while AMOLEDs in general shoot all the way up to 120% of the NTSC colour gamut

Plus, AMOLED can't produce true whites so... *shrugs*

Copy the S Pen you say? I'd like to know what you're smoking. Different target audiences here altogether. While the Note is an oxymoron pairing an AMOLED screen with a pressure sensitive stylus, the floating touch tech is meant for people to control the phone without having to necessarily come in direct contact with the screen

While there are similarities between their usage pattern in cold conditions, their operating principles aren't similar, as one requires the use of a peripheral in the given conditions, and the other does not.

Sony are taking all the right steps in my opinion. Seems that both Sony and Nokia are on the verge of regaining their glory days. I'm noticing innovation from Sony and Nokia of late, but nothing interesting at all from Samsung.

Perhaps a change of fortunes is on the cards?

TruthSeekr, 13 Mar 2012"Floating Touch" sounds like a great idea, but I'... morePerhaps it wouldn't help those who live in the tropics under normal conditions, but it'd definitely help those who live in colder areas or those who'd travel to colder areas

I remember my fingers having to suffer the bitter cold of Mt.Whistler in the rain and winds while taking off my winter gloves to operate it

With the Floating Touch tech to be integrated to future droids, we needn't worry about sourcing for capacitive touch strip gloves or stylus or removing our gloves to operate the phone in winter, or operating it with our noses while travelling in the cold

The floating touch + glove scenario would work well with T9 Trace based typing, such as Swype
