Anonymous, 19 Oct 2019no need to wonder people are not interested in dex and even... moreHalf my office was seriously thinking to buy tab S6 for that feature alone.

My office already is on ubuntu 100%. Problem with laptops is that they are too expensive still last less than phones and weight more than 3 lbs, I.e. they are stuck to 10 years in the past with no reasons for them to upgrade.

Tab S4 changed all that but was too weak. Tab S6 would had seriously ended the x86 dominance in many offices ... and then Samsung went on to cancel it.

Imagine a 12 GB ram, 5G enabled computer that lasts 9 hrs and weighs less than 1 lbr. That is what Tab S6 could have been, and would be in the Korean version if they somehow backlot linux on dex.

But officially? No, Samsung could not risk being being a subversive force for once. They almost did with the Note phone series (and then backpedaled with Note 5) and they now do it again with their tablets which could seriously double as laptops.

If they were to seriously support LoD Samsung would have sold like crazy. There is an unmitigated demand for ... weightless linux laptops.

      Samsung is out of touch!

Punch hole is innovation for you? Really? Last innovation from Samsung was Galaxy S6 Edge + Gear Vr and Samsung Dex OS which is not evolving. Punch hole is a step back. Tear drop notch is way better and way more ergonomic than punch hole.

I think I know the reason why Samsung discontinuing Linux on Dex. The reason is because Microsoft announced the Surface Neo which is running with Windows 10x and which Linux or Chrome os canÂ’t compare with. Samsung saw the long future with windows 10x that develop by Microsoft.

I really wanted to use this and I bet a lot of others did too. It unfortunately required a phone with all software updates in place - something that Samsung has been terrible at managing. Some combinations of phones and carriers get updates once or twice a year. Some can never update until a different carrier's SIM card is inserted.

I swapped SIMs and got the software updated just in time for Linux on Dex to be removed from the stores.

Doesn't matter even if it uses AMD thread ripper.

Because it will only be running ARM processor. And most useful productive apps are using x86. 64bit even. So you end up with arm apps.. and you know developers have to support a wide range of phones and tablets.. no way they can take full advantage of the processing power.

The upcoming Surface Pro X, uses ARM processor, limited to emulate x86 32bit (Windows programs)
Can never match the performance of a lower i3 or i5..

Aw, this sucks, I feel like linux support on DeX was useful although I only tried it once on a friends' S9.

Was going to buy S11 (my first Galaxy) because of "Linux on DeX"! The CPU in S11 will be as powerfull as mobile Core i5 7th Gen. But now will choose other brand for Snapdragon :(

On the other hand, utorrent exists in Android, only a very bad app unlike its equivalent in Windows. I know FFmpeg supports x265, but am not sure whether it supports 10 bit encoding.
Yup, Linux should be supported by Android (their base is the same; so, I don't see what the problem is). Windows aggressively started supporting Linux by including a patch in Win 10. So...

I though tab S6 was a great tablet, but in general, samsung has taken horrible decisions this year, now there is no good brands!!!

Samsung just killed one of the main(or probably the biggest) reason to buy their tablets over iPad Pros. I mean, just...why Samsung? I'm seriously confused with their decision.

Lol, just killed Tab S6. Tab s4 was an excellent linux laptop, only betrayed by the low specs. Tab s6 finally has the hardware for a revolutionary laptop (only 420 grams!) and they discontinue linux on dex? *facepapm*
