19 October 2019
There will be no future updates to the provided Linux distro and packages and with Android 10 the feature will disappear altogether.

Anonymous, 19 Oct 2019microsoft is now almost the biggest contributer for linux. ... moreLots of one line commits and adding Microsoft license info to header files does not come close to the effort that Red Hat has contributed to the kernel. Even Google barely comes close.

Hardly a surprise. If I want to use Linux for real, I'd install any properly legit Linux distro in a laptop. Even Linux on ChromeOS sounds like a joke to me.

Just to make it clear I am for Linux with QT (UI & other overlay) elements & Android apps suport & for dumping Android all together.

It supports Linux to support its business needs.
This means you still need to have Windows to run Linux.

I understand why Samsung sold out. It's business.

Now with windows 10 in arm I expect a big move from Samsung and Microsoft to give us windows on DeX

I was always skeptical of this Dex things from Samsung including desktop-like environment from Huawei (EMUI). These are NOT full CPUs that would run typical desktop software and only served small segment of enthusiasts.

Android will not get a decent torrent client or video encoding app in the near future; so, dumping Linux makes it harder. The OEMs need to understand this.

This gives me another reason to lean toward Surface, and dump Android as a tab/lap solution. Tab S6 is great given its awesome display and speakers and weight (superior to those of Surface), but Surface can run Android apps through 3rd party solution, and Mac apps through virtual machine. And, of course, it offers the extreme flexibility of Windows. If I can afford the Surface X, no looking back.

Then I don't see the purpose of DeX now.. samsung may as well discontinue the support for DeX and since DeX is not required, may as well discontinue the tablet business line. People buy the samsung galaxy tab s4 and s6 most for the DeX for "full desktop" experience, now the only hope, linux on DeX is gone, I really regret getting the tab s6 now.

As expected. Linux on DeX is hard to maintain especially when Android itself is making it hard for the manufacturers to integrate such feature on every major OS upgrade.

Special partnership with Microsoft and the end of Linux on Dex after couple months.

It's no surprise, Samsung & Microsoft are in partnership on the Galaxy & Note devices.
Microsoft's shops had been selling/pushing Samsung devices aggressively recently.
