Larger is just better when it comes to smart phones PERIOD. The challenge for designers is creating a device that is easy to carry. a few years ago smart phones had 2.8 to 3.5 inch screens. now they are pushing 5"

I believe the second generation LG chocolate was on to something with the larger aspect ratio (21:9). I could easily carry and use a 7" smart phone with this aspect ratio

I also believe that sony's tablet that has two adjacent screens is a great idea. personally 3 screens seems like the best solution.

I'm a guy and I have small hands. My xperia arc S is just ok for me at 4.2". But if ever I'll buy a new phone, I would prefer a 4.5 - 4.7" screen size. That would be awesome.

It's not the size! It's how you use it lol.

I wouldn't mind a 4 inch iPhone tho. That would be the perfect device for me as long as size wise it doesn't change much from the current iPhone. I hate large phones.

I dont care much for the screen size itself, as long as the device has the ram and the dpi to keep the screen running sharply without lag, i am happy. So far only the iPhone 4s has delivered. I was happy with the display on the i9000 Salaxy S but it did not have enough ram.

In my opinion, cell phone's screen should be at least 4.5 inch in size or even bigger... the biggest reason why I don't like iPhone is it's small as hell screen...

i think 4.3-4.5 is most ideal screen size.

US and UK are not average in terms of human height. They are oversized for 7-10 cm in average. So study could not pretend of last instance for phone makers. It's unprofessional. 3,7'' - 4,2'' would be more correct, taking whole world in account.

I have S2 t989 and the screen is bigger than the i9100. However the actual display area is only 3.9 inch and this phone work fine for me but some girls actually think it's a big too much for their hand.

Yes 4" at least for the purpose the phone is used for. beyond that galaxy s2 seems perfact having 4.3" its good for almost everything.

4.3" is perfect for me, above that and I'm starting to struggle to hold the thing properly and reach from corner to corner, below that is just not as nice to use. I do however want proportionate thickness and weight increases. I much prefer my Galaxy S2 in its rather thick and weighty Pop! case + 2000mah battery than without

of-course the bigger screen is the most important thig in the phone.

I'm using the sgs2 (owned the o2x, desire z, b7610 etc) and below 4" is not cool if not havinga hardware keyboard. I think the ideal size is indeed about 4 to 4.5". (If the bezel is very thin, perhaps sth like 4.7 is still okay)

4.7 inch (+/- 0.1 inch) is about ideal, at least for men. Big enough for more comfortable browsing, without having to struggle for one-hand operation. For ladies, 4.3 might be more suitable.

I'm using a SGS+ and I think that a 4" screen is the ideal for a smartphone. But it depends on the user hand. Peole with big hands can easily manipulate a smartphone with a 4,5" or 4,7" screen.

AnonD-1035, 15 Mar 2012Most people are complaining the screen size of their smartp... moreI am amazed how iPhone fans are so adamant and so sure that a 330 ppi 3.5" LCD screen is the future. The iPhone 4 had big issues with its antenna and was finally "enhanced"with the 4Ever. I am thankful that we have better choices. For your information, the Note is only 5.3" 285ppi Super AMOLED HD screen that has brilliant rendering. It even has an ACTIVE pressure level sensitive Wacom S pen stylus making it a portable digitizer for sketching our image editing efficiently than using a finger.

With Apple's pride, they won't go for bigger screens for their iPhone design. They will most likely just put up the pixel density and not even switch to AMOLED tech.
