4.5", Definitely 4.5". 4.3 is ok, but 4.5" is the sweet spot.

perfect size is 4.-4.3, varying in the ration, i have a nexus s and its a good screen, i think that the 4.3" screen on the SGS2 its too wide, even though
the 4.2" in SN xperia arc its perfect.

definitely depends what you are looking for in a smartphone, yea for gaming,probably 4 o 4.5 inch screen would better, but movie watching, quite good on a 3.5 as well, resolution needs to be good..pixel density equally matters, GUI should be designed/optimized as per the phone :D

I have been using the 5.3" HD Super AMOLED screened Galaxy Note ever since it came out 4 months ago. It is the size of a passport - it fits the top shirt pocket and ordinary jeans pocket. It was created for maximum effective size, with a dense resolution of 800 by 1280 to match bigger sized tablets, and it has a layer of Wacom tech behind the screen to work with the S Pen.
The Note's large screen size is useful for about everything - surfing, teleconferencing, spreed sheets, reading e-books, sketching, photo editing, watching, video taking, and makes more sense pairing it with a mouse and keyboard to use it like a mobile PC since it's power and capacity can take it. Yes, I do make calls with the ear speaker to my ear. It's only an inch bigger than the Galaxy S II, after all. And yes, I can text with one hand.
The hybrid design takes care of the functions of the smartphone to tablets can do, and yet remaining small enough to pocket.

I had s2 but display was too big for me. Now I use nokia 700. Nokias 3.2 inches display is perfect.

I agree with the findings of the research... for me, anything bigger than 4.3 inches would be... inconvenient...

I concur. 4.3 should be the average size of displays for smartphones. I am very disappointed by the rumors that claim a 4.8 inch screen for the galaxy S3.

Actually i can carry my 5.3 inch Gnote quite easly so 5.3 is ideal screen size for me........don't know about others............

i love small phone like x10 mini but after i switch to sgs and sgs II i think bigger is better, easier to read n type.i never put my phone in my front pocket and i have a small bag at my belt so size is not a big deal.
for the people who still use smartphone as a phone like the old day,they will enjoy smaller size cause all they need is messege and call, but for the people who utilize their smartphone capability they will seek for bigger size.
can u enjoy a normal website in 3.5inch screen?? i dont think so

Above that size just looks good but it's too wide for ergonomics.
