JimmyJones, 29 Oct 2019We need wide angle lens, not zoom! This phone will also feature an ultra wide angle lens.

AnonD-894375, 29 Oct 2019Smartphone tiny lense definitely doesn't out resolve anythi... moreTo be fair, a few old Nokia phones like Nokia 808 or some of newer flagship smartphones from Huawei come with lens that are capable of resolving more than 20MP of details. For instance, Mate 30 Pro and P30 Pro use pretty damn sharp lens and its 2x super resolution digital zoom from its main lens is comparable to other companies' 2x telephoto lens in terms of textures and clarity. I believe Pixel 3 and 4 are also using quality lens to achieve Super Res Zoom.

Now I understand that a 12MP image produced by downscaling the output from 27MP sensor would be still better than a 12MP image from a 12MP sensor, but then, why couldn't it be somewhere around 20MP? This is a sensor that was made by Samsung in collaboration with Xiaomi, they could've easily lowered MP count and made pixel size larger while maintaining the same sensor size. For me it just feels like they made a 108MP sensor so that they would be able to claim the highest MP count in any mobile phone camera for longer period of time.

Nick Tagataka, 28 Oct 2019Hardware specs do sound promising, but the real question is... moreSmartphone tiny lense definitely doesn't out resolve anything about 20MP. But having high MP sensor will still benefit in pulling the extra details. Those wordings on the 2nd image will definitely not be recognizable if a 12MP sensor were used (first sample image is about 12MP).

At the end of the day, if the these ultra high MP sensor still provide comparable low noise performance to traditional low MP sensor in low light when scaled down, there is nothing we can complain about. And this has been pretty much the case so far, at least on the IMX586 48MP sensor that is utilised by many cameras.

Anonymous, 28 Oct 2019that looks like painting when zoomed in. Give us OIS on all... moreIf you talking about details when zooming in, OIS doesn't help as well. OIS only helps for handholding, not when it comes to squeezing details out of "hybrid zoom" those details will never be even captured if a traditional 12MP sensor was used. The red words will just appear as some red pixel when you zoomed in.

The sample is pushing the limit of optics on a small sensor with ultra high resolution. Not even dSLR or cinematic lenses is able to outresolve 100MP perfectly.

Funny how people are expecting a smartphone with hybrid zoom to perform as good as a dSLR with 250mm lens. Watercolor, yes, at least you can make up the wordings in the background. Those words are probably just a few pixel across on your normal 12MP 2x zoom smartphone camera

If you are buying a phone for the camera, make sure it has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).

As a P30 Pro owner, completely not impressed at all by those pictures. Size doesn't matter always ;-)

Not bad. Would love to see how well it compares to 12MP smartphone photos and 20MP 1inch sensor point and shoot camera photos.

depending on the price, this can very well be my next device

Xiamiau the company who never sleeps. Stop the mass production already, release just a few phones in a year. Just look at apple or sony, no milion type phones with same specs just a corner difference, think about the nature too.

Vodude, 28 Oct 2019yes, agree.. i am waiting about its OIS.. how good is the OIS???Actually, on my P30 Pro's periscope camera, the optical stabilization is very good at 5x or 10x. With more zoom than that you'll notice it becomes harder to not shake even a little bit. This sort of technology from Huawei is good, but I don't know about Oppo if it is good too. Let's see how Samsung and Xiaomi does with this innovation.

PS: an excellent main camera is needed for mid-range zoom like 2x or 3x and Huawei has it like on my P30 Pro but except 3x zoom at night
