"This is just another one of the idiotic decisions Apple is known for making every now and then." -Not really, its just segementation. You have iphone XS? Pff, it is old and crappy tech, please buy iphone 11 and you will be able to change your video resolution easely, only for 1000 dollars you get latest and greatest tech.- Apple 2019

Shanti Dope, 29 Oct 2019"A lot" of Android phones, and only a few are capable of re... moreYeah. Android upgrade support is joke compared to iPhones.
I have Android phone because it is cheaper to buy, but you definitely get longer usage time by usin iPhone. They get updates Many more years than Android phones...
I am really considering next iPhone, just because it will last longer useable and secure. With Android you can Expect 2 to 3 years... with iPhone easily 6 year or even more. In long run it can become cheaper Also it wastes less resourses because you need to get new phone not so often as with Android... I really hope to see Android phones that get 10 years official support! Then Android will definitely be better option (maybe)...

Your comment would've been more accurate if you had said
But flagship like Note, Galaxy lines indeed get updates less frequently after 36 months.
The Note8 & S8 line (released April 2017) are coming up to being 3 years old & are still getting monthly updates.
The S7, S7 Edge, S7 Active (released March 2016) are coming up to being 4 years old & are still getting quarterly monthly updates, Galaxy Note FE gets Other Regular Security Updates.

It's also indicative of the quality and great-ness of the product.
If you think your phone is more than worth keeping for 5 years, then why do you have to replace it every single year?
As for Androids being able to do more, perhaps that is true, but nothing beats Windows in terms of pure capabilities.
I'm pretty sure anyone that could afford an iPhone could also afford some decent and powerful Windows laptop for their work.
Phones are meant to only work as they should be.
Any additional functions are just bonuses, but not necessarily a loss not to have them.
If I'm just going to buy a phone for its stylus, might as well just buy an iPad and enjoy the much larger surface area with higher screen refresh rates.

Update was about 590MB on iPhone 7 Plus. It took over an hour to complete. And I was not on a slow wifi connection.

And yet they ask nearly as much as the iPhones' cost?
Pathetic!
And you may say that they have far more features and all, but that'a as if some faster charging, reverse charging, and some more flexibility is more expensive than decades of optimizing a well-rounded software, fantastic software-hardware optimization, most powerful mobile SoC developed in-house, cameras that never fail to capture great images, excellent performance even after 5 years, great security, professionally calibrated displays, impressive audio quality, and so many more.

It’s not that far removed from the stacking algorithms used by the likes of Smart HDR. The difference is that the processing is now handled primarily by machine learning hardware acceleration local to the SOC.
Why don’t you take your own advice and get a clue before sounding off
