Little bit of mechanics will exclude this non sense of multiple camera's. A single larger sensor is better than installing multiple sensors for each camera.

For example, none of them (even Sony's) have dual-pixel AF. They basically "slower" to focus compared to, for example, IMX363. Also none of them has in-sensor DRAM which limits their capability for TRUE super slo-mo videos. They're also poor on how many image they can stack (for whatever reason like enhanced HDR) because they have their own processing needed to interpret during binning and full pixel matrix rearrangement.

Yronk, 04 Nov 2019its not multiple camera but multiple lenses in camera...jus... moreNope. The sensors are different for each lens set. So it is a different camera. Its not a situation where the light rays from all the lenses go to one single sensor.

Yes we could have interchangeable lenses like in DSLRs or mirrorless cameras. But the way companies are increasing the cameras is again......stupid. Plain stupid.

Multiple cameras are just plain stupidity and a marketing gimmick. They started with 2 then went on to three then four.....

Not a good solution. I dont mind companies increasing the phone thickness a bit and incorporating a prism design in which the lens assembly is housed parallel to the phone allowing for optical zoom features like in normal cameras.

And this is a tech that exists. Will make phones better.

Will those 5mp, 2mp modules use information from other camera modules to produce a more detailed picture? Or are we going backwards in time to crap cameras in mobile phones (by today's standards)?

sohail shafayat, 01 Nov 2019I don't agree, Xiaomi is advertising 108MP and in 108/64/48... morePixel binning helps for the higher dynamic range and SNR (which in turn might help capturing more details in low light), but does NOT increase the brightness/exposure of the image. In pixel binned mode this 108MP sensor would produce far superiour RAW image compared to small 1/2.55" sensors used on flagships from more premium companies. It's significantly larger hence capable of capturing more light, and usually the larger the sensor the better the RAW image quality.
