21 March, 2012
The final design of the nano-SIM will depend upon who gets to have his way.

stay with the sim system... better than the non sim/CDMA system...... mini/micro/nano..... not an issue if youre not a fussy phone user or for multi phone users, just get/ use phones with the same size sims.... and make sure you have the appropriate cutter handy if needed. personally, i prefer the mini....and micro sims vs the nanos.

if space is precious we should go back to old ways. where there was no sim on the mobile. analogue days. i remember getting my first phone. where the salesman connected it to a little gadget. and programmed a phone number in. no hassle. no fiddly sim cards.

How space saving is having a tray! And adding inconvenience of looking for a pin to poke!!

True to a comment made about not the whole world uses a micro sim card so why make it more smaller?? Never liked apple and now not a tiny bit. I have had a motorola, blackberry,a samsung and last a nokia which i love my phone. Had a iphone for weeks never liked lacks so many things i love from the other phones. So go nokia

ET, 21 Mar 2012Come on, another SIM standard???? Why the hell another size... moreI second the opinion. Manufacturers must try and make other phone components smaller rather than SIM card. Moore's law does not apply here.

It must be fair!!! If most manufacturers agree on one side then they must agree on the strongest side. Apple, may be with its technology thinks that they can go further with the Nano Sim then design it only for Apple

AnonD-171, 21 Mar 2012I still don't get how Apple is still able to get away with ... moreNot really. The SIM card specification is created and owned by ETSI (so no vendor patents here) and is first produced by Giesecke & Devrient. The vendors - like Apple, Nokia, Motorola, RIM, Sony can only propose to ETSI how the SIM should look like and what functions to have. But the decision is coming from ETSI and they are creating the standards - so no place for stupid patent wars.

The whole idea of making the nano sim is to save space inside all of our devices, so as always Apple want to use a tray to put the sim in which like now will be about the size of a normal sim.... where does the space saving come in?

Jimmychew, 21 Mar 2012Excellent idea in theory but in reality, i dont see it happ... moreWell ... there are people who carry two or three phones and mostly from different vendors. And most of this kind of people I know, chose their phones based of universal accessories, which one of them is a travel charger. They don't want to bother themselves by carrying multiple chargers when the actually can just bring one for all of their devices. These people will not only by Apple accessories, they even not bother to buy the phone. Isn't this a loss?

mac10, 21 Mar 2012Why not just do away with having sim cards altogether?Because people travel a lot and like to use their own phone internationally. So they can just pop the sim card out.
