Big battery needed, 08 Nov 2019They better have at very least 5000mah battery, even though... moreTrue. 4000mAh is a bit not enough for the 90Hz as I tried on Reno Ace. 120Hz with 5G, that would be a battery predator.

notafanboy, 08 Nov 2019Sounds pointless to me. 90hz is good enough.I used to be the same with you when talking about 144Hz for PC. But when I tried 165Hz, damn that's smooth! I sold my 144Hz screen in that day mate.

I won't buy it until it has 500 hz display, 20000 mah battery and 24 inch screen that fits in one hand.

They better have at very least 5000mah battery, even though 90hz should have battery like that already and phone with 120hz and 5G will be nightmare to battery life.

I'm not a fan of 90Hz, because it is very close to 60Hz, so the difference is negligible and sometimes the software will opt to use 60Hz when 90Hz has been selected.
With 120Hz, it's a different deal. It is twice faster than 60fps/60Hz, or x4 faster than 30fps/30Hz, or an impressive x5 faster than 24fps. Because of that reason, content seems to stick to 120Hz motion much more often by the software. And the fluidity is really noticeable. Forget about 144Hz posers.
Now, the battery drain from 60Hz to 90Hz is slightly noticeable (eg 8hr SOT vs 7hr SOT). And I suspect the 120Hz will have roughly the same impact (eg 6hr SOT). Is it worth it? Hell yes!!
Even without content for 120fps, the software will actually show at 120Hz. You can notice a huge difference when scrolling through text or icons. The image tends to "stick" (no ghosting) and moves faster under your finger. Eventually we will get Apps optimised for ActiveSync (or FreeSync2) compatibility within Android, but these framerate-unlocked titles will initially struggle surpassing 60fps, but they will all be targeting 120fps as that is an Industry Standard (unlike 90Hz). iPadOS is playing catchup here, since there are roughly 20 games for 120fps, whilst there are now 120 games for Android. And yes, the QSD 845 does have what it takes for that performance, so the QSD 855 and the QSD 865 shouldn't struggle (assuming the developer is not incompetent).
I feel like this past year or two has been a weird transitional period; non-standard 90Hz displays, weird 19:9 aspect ratios, punch hole displays, Earpiece speaker, and overkill 12GB RAM phones. I think we'll see a proper upgrade next year or two; standard 120Hz display, standard 21:9 aspect ratio, under-screen sensors/selfie, return of front-firing stereo loudspeakers, and a metric 16GB RAM phone.
Despite all of these, they will ruin the OnePlus 8 Pro's screen with curved edges :'(

YUKI93, 08 Nov 2019It's hard to see the difference on the phone screen, you re... moreHuh!? I can see individual pixels on a 720p screen(5.5), on a 1080p(6) it looks smooth, but 2k(6) screen looks real life.
The funny thing is i wear prescription glasses i can see them, but there are people who can't.

on 4.3" diagonal? makes no sence to go for 1080p
anything above 330ppi is pointless no matter if it's 2014 or 2019

Hope they fit atleast a 5000 mAh battery in the Pro then, if they are indeed going with 120Hz display.

SDK, 08 Nov 2019People said the same exact thing about 720p and 1080p.It's hard to see the difference on the phone screen, you really cannot tell. You can only see the difference if you project it to a big monitor or TV.

And I hope they won't make 4-5 variations from the OP8 series. It should be like this:
- Vanilla OP8 (The basic variant of the bunch)
- OP8 Pro (The more professional variant)
- OP8 McLaren Edition (The one with 12/512 setup)
