Greedy Qualcomm skimp on 5G modem, lack of competition on mobile SoC market hurts us customers, we need to pay more.

Soonâ„¢ we will be seeing phones getting past 3.0 GHz at this point, it seems they are still focusing on performance when it is already fast enough. I would like to see where this thing is heading.

Nick, 11 Nov 2019Incremental 855. Qualcomm is not even trying to get the fig... morewhy should qualcomm care so much about apple ? Qualcomm sells it's SE 865 to 10 plus different companies in loads and does not do phones under it's own brand to care about whats apple is up to. And well Apple does only for it's closed ecosystem and optimize to run on there closed ecosystem operation system. Cant really compare the chips if they run on different OS while Snapdragon is made to run on everything and are not designed to run only one OS like Apple have.

Shiny Dave, 11 Nov 2019I would love to see a downclocked 865 that put up 855-level... moreGo steady there Dave, that would make it too consumer friendly. Wouldn't be an easy thing to market (without some proper effort). Would be my choice though! All this 90htz screen, radar chips, assistant buttons, astral photography, underwater filming, heartbeat sensor, face unlock, they are second to battery life. The reason they don't bother is due to the way they have pushed improvements previously. They've harped on about huge 20% leaps in this that or the other, megapixel increases all the time. Batteries struggle to increase performance greatly. Yes they charge quicker, but let's be honest, I'd take a steady 18w charge, with 3 day battery life, over a 75w charge and 2hra SOT.

Nick, 11 Nov 2019Incremental 855. Qualcomm is not even trying to get the fig... moreNobody needs that performance anymore. Phones are fast enough. We need 5g, battery efficiency and lower standby power consumption now. See speed tests between op7 pro and iPhone 11 pro for example. They're nearly tied in most things. Are you going to frame the geekbench scores and hang them up on the wall?

Easily enable more cores to run at 2.8
That be a extra fast or higher clock
              Just depends on schedule
Like Samsung m cores at max load run at 1.96 the titles to 1.65 but 2.7 in single 2 core
              Which lowered multicore
They should focus on battery life much more

It... moreI would love to see a downclocked 865 that put up 855-level performance at a lower power consumption. Call it the "865B" with the B being for Battery, a lá the 730G, and rate it specifically for 1080p (leaving 1440p to the vanilla 865).

You could then have, for instance, the S11e/OP8 having the 865B and 1080p, while the S11/OP8 Pro go 865 and 1440p.

Incremental 855. Qualcomm is not even trying to get the fight to Apple.

I'm excited to see if Qualcomm custom core provides any benefit or not
Cortex A77 already seems a decent upgrade over Cortex A76

The leak is similar to the leak of IceUniverse (Single core 4250 + Multi core 13300).

Not very radical design departure from the Snapdragon855.

Hopefully with better ISPs, DSP, AI Engine, LTE, and various connectivity and extra video and photo processing chips and engines, hopefully the improvement is more than minor.

It was also good that Samsung dismantled that ludicrous Mongoose team. It was ouliing down the Samsung SoC performance. Hopefully they are more generous with the cache and better with the instructions. Also overclocking and energy management are well balanced. More than Snapdragon, I hope to see improvements with Samsung's next Exynos flagship.

KebabSLO, 11 Nov 2019Performance ? Why do they keep working on performance ? It... moreDefinitely needs battery life improvements over everything else in the processor world

                            Performance ?
Why do they keep working on performance ? It's good enough with 855, we need BATTERY life.
