When Sony do good, they do good. We have a Sony L1 here, one of the first Sonys with a USB-C port, and at only £120 or so when launched. It's lovely in the hand, great ergonomics, plastic, so won't shatter when you drop it, the UX (User Experience) is modern, fluid and the battery lasts ages. Same with the alas discontinued XPeria Compacts, Sony's most popular phones. They need to go back to the black square aesthetic to bring back their fans, and add a stylus, but retain a flat screen too, no curves thanks! I have a Note 9, but would love a blocky Xperia with a stylus, wireless charging and stereo speakers. Oh, and a decent camera, the one area Sony are poor at despite making great proper cameras!

I also know a lot of Sony and last year they extended the partnership with LG to make for them an OLED displays meaning they did for the TVs and the smartphones.

Samsung never did a 4K OLED display and showed it at the SID display week and I was watch that tech display conference for 5 years

People assume it is Samsung but LG was the first to make and 4K OLED HDR panel.

KamAbdi, 16 Nov 2019How do you know that Xperia 1's OLED panel is made by Samsung?? I know a lot. Such stuff as :

              - Ultra wide, zoom and selfie of 1 and 5 are isocell
              - only main camera of 10+ is exmor
              - 10 and L3 have only isocell
              - XZ2 Premium has 144Hz and WRGB
              - XZ3 oled is from LG, like the LCD from Xz2 series
              - main cam and zoom modules of 1 and 5 were built by Zeiss ( you see Milvus there)
              - main camera of 1 and 5 have different sensors, only 1 has motion eye

I knew about xz2 premium announcement in mid april in China about two weeks before that, I also knew it was going to use monochrome camera.

              More interesting info:

              - there was going to be xz4. It got cancelled and gave its place to 1.
              - 10/10+ were going to be known as xa3 series, not really developed as lineup of new xperia chapter

Older Xperia (from Z2 to XZ3) can go iso 12800 (not counting xz2p iso 51200).
It makes scene brighter, but not better than slow shutter/low iso.

Xperia X was the first Xperia 120Hz.

Xperia XZ1 is already enjoying proper Night Mode a year before Google had them on their phones.

And it works better too - the scene maintains the night look while gaining better details at hand. It's also done with smaller pixels, no OIS, and dimmer f/2.0 lens.

It was done by switching to Manual Mode, enabling HDR, and setting the shutter speed to 1s - similar to Night Mode.
You'd only do this once, and you could even set the camera app to launch in this mode. Not that hard, I'd say.

                        What does this say? Simple.
Having a knowledge on what you're doing could definitely change the way you look upon those things.

Maybe the reason GSMArena rates Xperia phones to have low color accuracy level is because the gears they're using isn't capable of measuring the extent of colors the Sony screens could cover, hence they classify it at "inaccurate" instead of "beyond the limits."
Good thing the Xperia 5 already showcases its accuracy, especially in Creator Mode, with that 1.5 average DeltaE.
One thing I like about Sony's OLEDs is that their screens are accurate without looking too yellowish.
Even on their Bravia OLED TVs, the whites are extremely clean and colors are nicely vivid while staying mostly accurate and natural as well.
Every time I visit the mall, I always go to Sony TV section just to mesmerize the beauty of Sony's OLED TVs.
It's like I could stare at them all day long and never get bored nor develop an eyesore.
If I'd buy an OLED phone, it would definitely be a Sony one!

By December, it'll definitely drop to as low as $400.
Xperia 5 might even get down to $350, as soon as Sony prepares the production for their 2020 flagships.
If I'm to be asked though, I'd rather wait for next year's lineup and get 5G-enabled phones.
At that time, I could perhaps earn a bit more and get enough to pay for the higher priced ones with considerably better hardware for the future.

Screen is made by Samsung, but it does not have red hues when Creator Mode is on. Just bit blue hue when it is off.

Since Sony uses own standards, the conventional ones wont find the correct values for Delta and Gamma. According to some one that works from Sony posted on Weibo, Creator Mode goes delta 0.8. Lowest among all phones.
