Anonymous, 24 Nov 2019And another interesting fact that's not in your comment is ... moreDoubt much has changed since, developers always make more on iOS vs Android.

Unfortunately this article does not cover earnings.

Kangal, 24 Nov 2019This just goes to show you, it is about the Quality and not... moreWindows 10 Mobile could easily be a viable third mobile OS, but it's a shame that devs prefer Android and iOS despite Microsoft making things easy for them. But that said, there are devs out there who do give some love to Windows 10 Mobile.

Take myTube! for example, that is by far not only the best third-party YouTube client, but also definitely better than Google's own official app. The fact that I can read comments without the video starting and also download a video straight to microSD card without any download refresh whatsoever have definitely won me over. And that is just one I familiar, there are countless third-party client app for popular apps out there.

This just goes to show you, it is about the Quality and not Quantity.
So if there was supposedly a third-ecosystem, they can compete against Android or iOS if they only managed to have the Top Used Apps. And that's only going to amount to about a couple 100 Apps and maximum of only 10,000 Apps. There really could be healthy competition if we had a proper Windows10 Mobile ecosystem, or maybe another one done collectively by the open-source community.

Here’s how I’d compare them (hypothetically):
Apple, iPhone, iOS, AppStore, Safari, Yahoo, Siri, iTunes, Apple Maps, Apple Pages, iMessages, Apple Mail, iCloud, Apple Pay, Game Center, Instagram, Facebook

Microsoft, Lumia, Windows Mobile, Windows Store, Edge, Bing, Cortana, Groove, Bing Maps, Microsoft Office, Skype, Outlook, OneDrive, Microsoft Pay, Xbox Live, Veoh, LinkedIn

Google, Pixel, Android OS, Play Store, Chrome, Google Search, Google Assistant, Play Music, Google Maps, Google Docs, Google Duo, Gmail, Drive, Google Pay, Play Games, YouTube, Google+ Shoelace

Linux, Colt, ZerOS, Zero Market, Firefox, DuckDuckGo, Hound assistant, VLC Player, OpenMaps, LibreOffice, Signal messenger, Proton email, OwnCloud storage, PayPal NFC, Lutris games, Vimeo, Diaspora social

I bet those are the ones that are stuck on the stores homepage all of the time. Other apps are not very visible, to the point that the app store feels pretty small when clearly this is not the case.

There are lot of scams in these stores as well.

                      * the same app is published under different name, different publisher and sometimes with a different skin.

                      * some paid app disappear after some time and reappear in a different name again as a paid app. This way the publishers get to make more money with the same app.

That article mentions nothing about iOS having better quality apps and games, show me where it says this.

It says that the much smaller App Store has always been a bigger earner than the Play Store because iPhone users are willing to spend more money on apps and games.

Paying more for everything (apps, games, services, data storage, hardware, accessories) doesn't mean that it's better quality, I can only see higher profits being made.

                          Money
                          A big, very big team

How is a small app gonna fight

This is just like the 1% rich people that accounts for 80% pf total money in the world

The only thing I can take out of this study is that the AppStore / PlayStore need a better advertisement system that helps young developers to promote their apps.

In my experience, a problem with app advertisement is that often these ads are misleading and what you get in the app is nothing close to what you were looking for, specially when they come from barely known sources, so I end up ignoring a lot of these ads even if they look interesting.

Another thing they should do is make it easier to pay money to these developers. not all countries can use debit cards for online payments and of course not everyone has a credit card.

Meanwhile, most of those top percenters started most of their apps in a good way but end up pushing endless adverts and /or shoving subscription on them. Even including those users who paid for a one time fee.
