03 April, 2012
Gingerbread grew the most, as all but Ice Cream Sandwich decline. ICS is still in the 3% range though.

It's hilarious seeing android fans say "the update will have the fix for this or that", so bad an OS update means much more a bug fix than a better experience based on new features

There is bound to be various versions out there. Keeping it in one piece would be mean not making it OPEN source, which is the very thing Android is all about !

          Loosing the race?? lol

Android is the best OS launched until today, the one who has more customers, and also the more affordable and the most customizable out there!
The ICS will fix all the issues and will put an end on the supposed fragmentation you say.

This article (and indeed the fragmentation highlighted within it) should really serve as a warning to Google to keep Android in one piece...

...or run the risk of losing the race.

              Yes, losing it.
Seems impossible - even laughable - today, but not too long ago it seemed impossible that RIM would be on the line...and they are; simply because they thought they were unbeatable in Enterprise Communication.

Google needs to wake up and take control of fragmentation before its too late.
Delaying JellyBean (and Key Lemon Pie) would be a start.

all i can say is that google can maintain their position as one of the most market sellers if one of their top priority is to have an upgrade with the OS gingerbread to ICS no matter what device.. that gonna ring the bell of android users

Ray, 03 Apr 2012Unfortunately you dont understand what update ICS really br... moreToo many apps are completly incompatible/unusable and lag... on ICS, and there is no app or game that really need more GPU-acceleration on my S2, and GPU-acceleration actually can drain battery when every frame in movies... have to use GPU. ICS use more ram than GB! The task-manager on ICS is less usable because the icons are too big making only 3 apps visable on screen and scrolling between this long list of all apps... in history makes multitasking worse than on GB, and both have the task-manager button to press if you want too access only the actually open apps... and there close them one by one or all at once.
The ICS-"upgrade" for S2 did not even include the ICS camera upgrades, so Samsung made the reasons for downgrading from GB to the buginfested ICS even less!
ICS is just as bad as Vista was for PC, but I hope the next version of Android will be what ICS should have been, but unfirtunatly that next Android version after ICS will have no support at all for Adobe Flash, so I think the latest versions of GB will be the best Android versions ever, it is not perfect but far better than anything else today...!

This is a waste of time. It's not like most people can really pick what version they're on--except those who are really into tech stuff (and developers). The codenames (Froyo, GB, ICS, etc.) also make it look bad when really it's just versioning (2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc) which comes with the phone. Normal people who're otherwise contented with Donut or Eclair don't need to be convinced to ditch their phones and get a new one. Why not just as well write an article about the statistics for white and black casing or what mAH batteries more people are using now. Big deal--OS comes with the phone and only a few people think they should always have the latest. That's apple's model (marketing ploy) and shouldn't be advocated elsewhere.
