can it match the quality of a DSLR?

You can't record unlimited 960fps video for a prolonged period of time and its resolution is limited to 720p in some devices. So no, it has not been "mastered" at all, it's nowhere close to being a practical feature let alone a perfect one. Next year will be the big improvement where unlimited 960fps recording becomes possible thanks to SD865, but as for now it's more of a one-off feature for most people rather than one that they use daily.

"Everything you say tells me You don't even have an S10"
I see. So because I don't quite enjoy using a super slow-mo on my phone as much as you do on yours and prefer practical features over flashy ones, suddenly I'm a lier who's claiming to own a device that I don't. I'm really sorry for being such a reasonable person, sir, everything you say tells me you're not worth arguing with.

Finally, you don't "loose" brain cells, you "lose" them... But of course, that's only if you have had one in the first place.

Want MORE? pay exorbitant prices. Only philosophy Apple follow is to milk the customers while skimming on most features. This is why there OS is backward in all departments.

960fps has been mastered on Android already but you can deny that and continue to enjoy weak 240fps. Everything you say tells me You don't even have an S10. I bet your next claim will be that split screen multitasking is also gimmicky.

I know the logic trolls like you follow. Every feature that Apple has is the best and useful while every feature that it lacks is gimmicky.
Not gonna loose more brain cells arguing with an Apple brand fanatic.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2019Man you seem like a hater. By your logic, most people don... moreApple offers minimum of 128GB storage and is using HEVC format in order to deal with huge file size of the 4K60 video, so there's actually very little issues with it.

It seems that you don't understand the underlying philosophy of iPhone, which is to provide UI and features that simply "work" without any wait or hassle. With 960fps super slow mo recording, you:
-Might miss the moment even with the aid of software
-Won't be able to use the feature in medium to low light condition due to how noisy it will end up being
-Need to wait several seconds to process the video after pressing the shutter button

Apple is a company who even made sure that image enhancing features like night mode and Deep Fusion will finish processing the photo within a second (unless in extreme low light) so that the users won't have to wait. Maybe they will implement it next year, when they can record the super slow mo for infinite period of time until the storage runs out, a larger sensor will allow the camera to capture usable footage even in low light, and there won't be any lag after the recording. However, its current situation goes directly against Apple's ideology, so they are waiting for the technology for it to be mature hence it will be consistent with iPhone's other features and the overall UX. They have ALWAYS been doing this kind of stuffs.

Now tell me please, of which company am I being a "hater"?

By your logic, most people don't use 4k 60fps either since it consumes way more space yet Apple decided to give it to users.
          Stop justifying Apple ditching features.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2019It is very practical, just coz you don't use it much doesn'... moreWith most reviewers agreeing that super slow mo is a one trick pony feature that you will use less and less frequently as the time goes by, I doubt if majority of people are feeling the way you are.

For instance, Xperia 1 can record the slow mo video for 0.16 seconds at FHD resolution, but it lacks motion detection feature which renders it useless in many situations. Galaxy S10 can do it for 0.4 seconds but at only at HD. Now Mate 30 Pro can record just as long as S10 at FHD resolution with motion detection turned on, or twice as slow at the same resolution, but this is still quite limited since those phones cannot record the slow mo consecutively really fast. SD865 will enable unlimited 960fps video recording at 720p, but it won't change the fact that people will use it far less frequently than a regular 1080p or even 4K video.

960fps is far from a gimick.

Apple is a joke company which doesn't give you features even if the hardware supports it. This isn't specific to camera but in all other departments.

I'm one of those who has used it a few times in the past just for fun(my S10 has it), but I have to admit, it's not practical for day to day usage due to strict limitations.

Low light performance is approximately proportional to (pixel size)² x (number of megapixels) x exposure time / (f-number)² .
Only in light conditions where you get irregular noise and awful color reproduction, the number of megapixels gets less important than in the mentioned formula, though even then a higher megapixel count will still make photos look less noisy.
