Turkey's competition authority ruled that Google should allow users to change the default search engine, which kicked this off. I was thrown off a horse.

Google-B-Gone, 18 Dec 2019Nope, you didn't get it right at all. Google does NOT own ... moreWhat? You certently didn't got it right. Google owns android as they bought Android.inc, the company that developed android in 2005. Just because it is "open source" does not mean it stays on the streets. Android is now developed by google and also updated by google, so haw can you even think google works on a system "nobody owns"? Stop telling people such stupidity, it actually hurts my brain when read it. You confuse open source with stray dogs.

Anonymous, 18 Dec 2019So let me get this right.
Google owns Android. Google buil... moreNope, you didn't get it right at all.
Google does NOT own Android. No one does, Android is open source.
The only thing Google does own is their set of bloated spyware apps, which track your every move, just to create profiles of you and sell them to whoever wants them (advertisers, NSA, etc).
Google is already forcing manufacturers to install all of their bloated spyware apps as root, so they cannot be uninstalled. This is severely anti-competitive, but so far, they got away with it. To further enforce their monopoly, they want to prevent people from being able to change the default search engine.
Google already tried the same unfunny crap with the EU, but they got a bloody nose, because they EU doesn't tolerate this. So EU users can now pick a different search engine.
With Turkey Google apparently thinks, they can do whatever they want.
Hope Turkey stays strong in this one, and doesn't let Google extort them.

So let me get this right.
Google owns Android. Google built its empire on Google search.
Google sells Android phones for which google is the search engine.
Turkey wants Google to allow users to use a non google search engine by default.
IT'S A BLOODY GOOGLE PHONE haha
Buy something else if you don't like it. You can still use other search engines. Turkey just
need money. That's what they always do.
On another note you can choose your default search engine on iOS. hmm

If anyone is following politics will understand. Their PM has fallen in love with Russia lately, specially after the US problems with selling htemthe F-35 whatever. So the dictator is playing a political game here against a US company (and supporting a Russian one is not a coincidence). And everyone knows how the courts in that country are influenced by the goverment...

Tells me everything I need to know. Gosh if you're negative towards yourself and your comra... ahem buddies, how come others will ever be positive towards you?
(No, don't get me started on "Chebournet" or taxes or whatever. In 9/10 cases there's little substance behind the REEEEEEEEE. And when was the last time a law worked like a Swiss watch in Russia? xD)

They don't give a damn to monopoly.
For e.g,look at insta/fb/whatsapp.
Changing Default will matter only to private companies and competition.
In India, people love whatsapp and they don't care if there is zero competition as long as Whatsapp is free, without ads and secure.

I know that the every government want to control access to information.
