The best phones of the decade - part 1

29 December 2019
We have a look back at some of the best phones of the decade that heralded major developments.

Sort by:

the decade is not over yet, you should wait to the end of 2020 which is the actual end of the decade,
But in general good choices

Samsung's Note should be for sure, as it persisted for whole decade and only now we can see others - trying - to compete with pen feature.
808 hi res take on photography is another hero, even now its hard to phone capable of taking such hi res shots - with great processing.
Cannot forget 4K phone from sony and mateX looking like ordinary phone but being foldable.

The Lumia 920 should have been here, the first phone with OIS.

Aadrian, 30 Dec 2019Nokia N8 had and still has a great camera. Obviously inferior to the 2019 flagships. But yeah, the camera is still decent.

My favourites in this list: Nokia N8, Samsung Galaxy S II, Nokia 808 PV, Sony Xperia Z, HTC One M7, Nokia Lumia 520 and the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact.

The Nokia Lumia 520 (my first smartphone) is the smartphone I like the most in this list, bought it for £70 back in July 2014 and replaced it in December 2015, worked great until the battery life wasn't enough for a day. The N8 gives me nostalgia because of all the hype because of its camera, I remember the S II being basically the best Android at the time, 41MP on the 808 was a record-holder for 6 years, the Xperia Z's water-resistance was true innovation unlike smartphones of today, the build of the M7 was incredible, the Z1 Compact is an example of what we still want in 2019.

            HTC desire >> Samsung Galaxy S2 >> LG g2 >> Samsung Galaxy s5 >> Nexus 6P >> Samsung Galaxy s8 >> Huawei P20 Pro >> Samsung Galaxy s10/Asus ROG 2.

Sharp definitely belongs on this list. First one to offer 120hz screens. First one to launch bezelless screen.. One of the first ones to offer IP ratings on their phones. They'd achieved all that by 2014! And now they'll also be the first one to launch a 240hz screen phone in 2019. Pretty impressive!

Nokia N9!!! Where is Nokia N9!!! Nokia N9 is still the best example of gesture UI and still the best example of App multitasking

This was done on 1 Core 1 GHz 1GB of Ram..

Try the same feat on your octacore 8GB phone of today

Kind of surprised not to see Oppo Find 5 here.

Nokia N8 had and still has a great camera.

But you have forgot to mention the Mi 5 and Mi 6/ Mi note 3 . These were great at that time(true flagship killer not just a hype). OnePlus wasn't that good at that time.

To talk about windows phones but not about nokia 920 is an insult. As lumia 920 had a few firsts that till today were slowly copied by the leftover OS's. From OIS, to night shutting capability, living pictures, wireless charging and the list goes on... but yeah, is good that all iphones are here... the truly innovative ip4 with it you could go steahlt mode as it never had signal, but hey it managed a high level support for wallpaper, truly a beast in an time where nokia N8 had hdmi out, fm transmitter, 12 mpx with light filter camera plus zeiss lenses, mic with active noise cancelation, amoled and an OS that could literally (as they say) "bake a cookie"
