You will have to flash custom roms to use the hardware of phone to fill potential. Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi Note 5 Pro was hindered by many issues on MIUI due to buggy software. They took more than six to seven months to refine their software. Both the phones were running top notch on custom roms. Redmi has ended weekly beta updates too which is now big problems.

Not going to vote the Redmis because some versions are preloaded with adware. Even if you'd turn that off you'll never know if the phone still sells personal data to Xiaomi.

No community supports would indeed bring bad luck for some but not to many. People getting tired to that unreliable custom roms and the original rom was improved so much on recent devices. I'm speaking as a veteran of a software engineer (previously).
As long as the company supports the device at least for full 2 yrs then nothing to worry, jst buy a new one at that time.
