Dolby, 27 Dec 2019No... Mediocre all around, in the real world and in ever... moreExcept iPhone XR still beats ALL Snapdragon 855 and 855+ phones. And it's over 1 year old now... How is that... mediocre? People complain about "720p" display and yet I can't find a single thing wrong with it. Everything on it is sharp and looks great, if you have to compare sid eby side with 1080p display and look at it at 3cm distrance to spot mild difference in sharpness on some text, you're already failing at the argument (and yes, I had 1080p phones before, they just drained more battery coz of it with no benefit). I also have great battery life though I admit I babysit battery a bit by charging it only to 80%. And still get almost 2 days out of it for my usage. Camera makes amazing photos and with NeuralCam, I can also make really good night shots in near complete darkness. All in all it's a really good phone with many really good features for reasonable price. And it just works great and I can be sure I'll get updates for years. None of which I'm sure with any Android.

But most people tend to navigate and use apps on their phone, as opposed to render UHD video and photoshop.
But iPhone users will focus on rendering and theoretical benchmarks because they feel that's where they 'win'?
It's a bit bizarre that the fastest chip on the planet can't open Netflix or Spotify faster than the same generation Android? You don't think the fact that the camera is behind the competition, is an issue? And battery life can't match (iPhone 11 Mac, aside)?
Like I showed, historically they lag behind ... From 3G to 4K to IP ratings to charging to cameras to 5ghz WiFi to NFC. Most technology trickles down - and that's an issue for people that like cutting edge.

Fast charging is 130% faster on the competition and wireless charging is 250% elsewhere.
They're generally a bit slower at navigating and opening apps too (real world speed) - so now we have the fastest most advanced phone with a number of key areas that it fails?

Go look at real world 3rd reviews and videos, as opposed to their own datasheet and articles by Cult of Mac.
On the photo side, DXOMark for the iPhone 11 Pro at 124 and the (old) P30P is 125 - so the old Huawei is still ahead. The M30P and the Xiaomi (currrent gen) are sitting at 132. There's still no decent zoom? No manual mode? No macro setting? They've only just added ultra wide and night?
The camera is behind the competition no matter how you look at it, both in terms of quality and photos. And this year has been the closest it's come...
The battery on the iPhone 11 Max did outlast everything else - but only that model. The normal models couldn't beat the Huawei and Samsung flagships. This is normal too - year after year the iPhone sits down the list when it comes to battery drain.
And as we said, wireless charging spees is 250% down from the competition, fast charging is 45%down

Opening small apps can go either way, but the more demanding task gets the better iPhone power shows. That's why for example Apple is opening almost every heavy game faster and let's not even talk about rendering 4K videos etc. which are very demanding tasks, iPhone does that like 3-4 times faster.

On the other end of it the market has spoken, Apple still take the greatest profit and he best selling smartphone is an iPhone.
Clearly specs donÂ’t mean that much and people want a great smartphone experience.try to spin it all you want, the iPhone 11 did in 10 days what most Androids could not do in 3 months.

I'm saying that is they could offer a phone that was decent in terms of what it offered, they could probably attract new customers and sell more.

My 2 complaints for the XR:
- Sub 1080p display for £750 is a rip-off.
- Trying to make the bezels larger but symmetrical is bad as the phone is 4mm wider than the Galaxy J5 2017 (my brother's phone), and both phones have the same screen width. 75mm is too wide for one-handed use. The J5 2017 is good for me when it comes to one-handed use.

Updates are crap, endless malware, not much of an ecosystem, crap tablet apps etc etc etc... Literally the only thing they can hang onto is specs, most of which none of them use.

This is because of the carriers giving them for free to business and government accounts. Where I work at, we ordered 248 of them for free by verizon and then apple counts them as a sell.

All I'm saying is that iPhone is always playing catch up - they had caught up on this battery and camera and 3G and 4K and water proof and Dual Band WiFi and optical zoom and and and and.
They'd sell more of the could lead - or at least match the competition.

Anonymous, 27 Dec 2019What are you talking about? iPhones sells very well. No oth... moreThe thing is they've been making iPhones for 12 years - and this is the *first* iPhone in history to be able to beat the rest. One model. Twelve years.
Go look how the 2018 or 2017 compare to Samsung or Huawei?
iPhones aren't great with their battery systems in general. They have 7.5w (!) wireless charging from 2017 and 18w fast charging (!) You can't judge 12 years on a single model phone? You can twist it any way you want, but in general they have OK batteries.
Camera isn't bad either - they've caught up with ultra wide and low light. But my point is maybe they should lead, as opposed to me 18 months behind? I've been using these features for a while already. They still don't have a zoom that can compete with P30P? Can't do manual mode at all? 1 point *behind* the old P30P on still camera? And a whopping 8 points behind the same generation Huawei? That's not great
I guess it's OK if you aren't into the latest, but it's really not great
