05 January 2020
The Alpha represented a radical shift in Samsung design - it featured a machined metal frame and was thinner and lighter than the competition.

I want removable batteries to return so I can use a phone for as long as possible. Non user removable batteries will create a problem once the battery swells.

You forgot to add Galaxy Alpha gave birth to the A series phones and you could get a bigger battery pack with thicker back cover for the Alpha.

I used to own a Galaxy Note 3. My user experience was only good at first, then I hated it.

Battery capacity is quite small, it had to be recharged 2x per day when I used it. The back, although removable, is cheapo and can be lost easily. Chipset is low par (I was using the Exynos version) and TouchWiz was quite laggy. I had to use it because I couldn't afford to buy another phone.

Then I bought a Note Fan Edition, thinking the problems have been fixed. It was worthwhile but only for a year until the chipset throttles early especially in games, and opening apps are pretty slow. I also had an iPhone 7 and there are no mentioned lag or severe throttling. The Note also has poor battery life and the fingerprint sensor is rubbish.

I also had an S10e (Exynos) because of a carrier-subsidized deal. Not as laggy when opening apps, but chipset throttles early under load and also has subpar battery life. The wifi signal also drops randomly even with a stable connection, other users also report this issue. Switched to the X2 Pro and iPhone 11 and both phones run with zero problems.

Sorry Shamsung, your products are both overpriced and meagre in terms of quality, both build quality and user experience.

Compact, removable batt., fast & powerful. No other ducks given. Loved it without having/using it.

A very futile attempt by Samsung to copy Apple. Luckily, Samsung execs grew some brain with Galaxy Note 4.

all I remember at that time was samsung stupidly launch the new galaxy s are still using plastic while other brands were using metal for their phones, and months before (at least half year) samsung launched their galaxy s, people are already screaming that they want upcoming galaxy s are using metal too.. Then samsung ignored it, consumers disappointed, sales are not good, and samsung fired their designer.. quickly after, they want to launch this galaxy alpha, rumor has it this galaxy alpha was intended to 'succeed' their failed plastic-flagship galaxy s, but when it was launched, people disappointed again because galaxy alpha only got mid-range spec.. after that, galaxy A series was born succeeding galaxy alpha

I hated the Galaxy Alpha it went against everything that was Samsung back then, I went and got myself the Galaxy Note 4 later that year at launch, and truly enjoyed that beast, it also had a metal frame and was probably one of the last truly solid smartphones out before everyone decided to go with Glass backs.

And I'm still using Alpha I bought in December 2014. I knew it was copying an iPhone, but the reason I got it is simply because it was smaller than S5.
I usually replace phones every 2-3 years (since 2002), and I really want to get a new one, but there's just nothing to buy. Yes, there were Sony compacts and iPhone 8, but neither of these were appealing to me.
If Android phones continue to grow in size I feel my next phone will be either Fold 2 clamshell or 5.4" sized iPhone coming this year. Maybe Sony will return with a meaningful compact, but I don't believe it.

Wouldn't the A3 be counted as a successor to this? Not that it's in production. Wish 4.7 inch 16:9 screens made a comeback.
