It promises improved refresh rates, but is keeping specifics under wraps for now.

Its the best for viewing or reading, but since they do not push beyond 7inch, price and demand stay about the same. For example you get 8inch in color and hi res, with android, movies, games etc. no need to have another device just for reading. Actually in good lightning even eye strain is similar(with no pwm or high enough flickering).

I guess the worst obstacle currently is that the colours are quite dull, so used for photos it looks pale or dusty. So they are not (yet?) optimal for photo-frames.

EskeRahn, 10 Jan 2020Indeed e-ink is perfect for serious usage, but not for game... moreAnother way would be as 10-20inch tablet made as picture frame or the clock, wanted such customizable energy saving clock for a long time, sadly its also pricy so just useless in the end.

vrvly, 10 Jan 2020e-ink is best for reading and great battery endurance so wa... moreIndeed e-ink is perfect for serious usage, but not for games and videos.

So what would be optimal with current technological limits would be something like the Yota, but with a colour e-ink. This way we could have phones that lasted for a week again for the ordinary usage, but could also do stuff that required a fast display.

I have a dream that some come up with a (micro)LED display, but fully transparent (no polarisers), and with the colour e-ink under, so we could 'fall back' to the e-ink outdoors, or just when we wanted to save the power, or reduce eye-strain.

                        This is quite cool!

I wonder if it would be possible to create a two-layered smartphone screen, with a normal OLED on top, and it could turn transparent and reveal an e-ink below it, which could be used for reading without eye strain, and things like an always-on display that doesn't drain battery or degrade with time.

e-ink is best for reading and great battery endurance so watch and tablet is way better choice. Still considering its price, watch is probably the only option. They also cannot compare fully for every kind of tablet usage, phones going 120hz are already out of touch probably.

Main advantage of using this type of display would be battery life. Tho they should be putting this type of displays on smart watches, tablets for e readers and big screens for advertising and information boards. Imagine watching a Youtube video on a smartphone that feels like a GIF due to a refresh rate of less than 10 frames per second?

If it is priced normally I will buy it. I wanna get rid of glare of smartphones.
