I have barely used the full potential of 6gb ram on a note 10.
Unless 2020 is the year game devs start pushing mobile gaming to it's potential, like console quality games and not paytoplay messes, I doubt we absolutely need 16 gb ram.
Then again, doesn't hurt to have extra ram on a phone :)

Besides we(consumers) don't deserve a Good OS either.
Windows mobile OS was great. It ran fluently even with 512MB RAM(please don't expect it to run demanding apps) . The OS was well optimized, used to run fluently. May be it's just me. What do you guys think ?

Android phones are getting ridiculous. So unoptimized. So resource-hungry. So slow compared to a proper OS like iOS. Poor android fans... Blindly buying subpar devices because they hate the good and proper smart devices from Apple.

Others were well explained. We do not need more than 8gb ram for next 3-5 years.
Anyway 865's max RAM is 16GB(50% is always more than enough). That says everything.

PS4/Pro and Xbox One have 8gb of RAM, Xbox One X 12gb of RAM and have high end games.
Just think about it how terribly unoptimised the mobile gaming market is if we need for all these shitty smartphone games 16gb of RAM IN PHONES then (we don't, but mobile games are an unoptimised mess)
So what is it then? Marketing nothing more, nothing less because even with the most heavy smartphone games out there there is more benefit to a fast GPU and CPU than more RAM, even a 6gb RAM phone can do the job of the SOC had enough power.
More RAM in phones is like the megapixel race, more doesn't mean better and Xiaomi is one of these companies that sells their stuff because "more is better", they know the weakness of their customers.

No innovation / just gimmicky. They should spend that "money" on other thing to make the phone more interesting. Oh wait, maybe in 2021 there will be Android phone with 32GB of RAM and 2022 will be 64GB of RAM.. ROFL
