Lumias aren't competitive enough, say European carriers

17 April, 2012
The high price tags, mediocre marketing plans and some software issues are to blame.

Apart from marketing issues, WP is far superior when it comes to performance & stability. Make no mistake I have had half a dozen high end droids over the years, and still use HTC Sensation (along side Lumia 800 every day. Yet Sensation feels laggy / stuttering all the time, then there are strange issues like rebooting while idling etc. non-responsive touchscreen (similar issues I had on original Galaxy S). Anyway, it is not the greatest and expensive hardware which wins the day, it is consistency and user experience, i.e. the reason Apple's iOS is far superior to android, which is really just a copy cat of iOS.

Anonymous, 17 Apr 2012They really need to raise their bar and be more up to date ... moreWVGA screen, who watches HD movies on a phone??!
1080p recording for a phone is overkill.
    Even camcorders only do 1080i,
720p suits the Windows quick and easy style.

WP8 will let users decide to select more options, like the successful WP7 and WP7.5 have.
Tony many options will confuse new users to the sytle.
    thanks

nokia can build a phone with a great built quality and excellent camera but alas nokia still uses the outdated symbian os and the ugly windows phone os ,that is why nokia is not the top seller in smartphones department.
if nokia releases only one android phone their sales will reach millions in less than one week specially knowning that a lot of people still buying nokia just for its name and never tried a real smarrt os like android or ios ,they still uses symbian and even some of them bought the n9 which runs meego os that was abandoned by nokia and the big developers and only supported by nokia geeks.

AnonD-14018, 17 Apr 2012this subject was debated allot and every1 agrees that nokia... moreTrue to some extent mate. but lets wait for WP to cope up, especially considering the fact that they are serious to make a mark on smartphone os.

lets see how Win8 performs, since MS boasts about the strong ecosystem win 8 is going to get with it.

coming to nokia, i guess they should improve on adverstising at the moment, just win the customers in other markets apart from US (US has an edge bcoz MS operates from US, obviously it shall put a lot of emphasis to gain market in home ground)

Nokia should go for Android and should continue their Symbian. Windows was a wrong decision for nokia, for sure

Marketing, I think, has always been Nokia's biggest problem. Symbian as an OS has always been excellent in my view. If it had been marketed in the way Apple present iOS then I doubt if there would have been a problem. Maemo and Meego also showed a lot of potential.

Neither do I think Steven Elop has realised how unpopular Microsoft are over here in Europe. Most of us have probably bought Windows operated PC's because we couldn't afford Apple Macs.

As for Windows Phone OS, to date it has been mostly inadequate.

They really need to raise their bar and be more up to date hardware wise. I mean, WVGA screens in their high ends for 2012? No 1080p recording, disabled LTE for europe, no NFC, etc.

I would buy a Lumia 800, maximum price I'd pay for this toy is 199€, off contract.

Phones aren't providing enough competition to Lumia's i think.People have too learn Zune restrictions
                        are for their own good.
And hardware specs mean nothing if 8mp and 720p is good enough for normal people.
once you know tiles, tell people it's popular now.
-Winning the American market matters, not Europe anyway.
-I think google paid for this ad to slow sales
-This is not helping sales articles like this.
-Can it be more balance saying Windows OS is better choice for normal people and no rooting is needed.
-Tell us about the sales records of Lumia 900.

Go Nokia, true fans believe and follow Elops vision
of one phone for the world that is windows based.

can't blame nokia for trying to emmulate the apple way...if hey love it, they will come for it. Meaning people who love nokia will come no matter what os it has . But it is a big mistake it seems but how could they have known.Apple came out of nowhere and presented a new os and people started buying iphones .Nokia just did the same..many years later

this subject was debated allot and every1 agrees that nokia shoulda used android as theyr main platform. WIndows is just to big of a fail and windows 8 will dissapoint even more because it will still rely on shity apps

I think its not just the software thats the issue tho, i mean the lack of micro sd slot, no front facing camera (on the 800 and 710) and the lack of wifi hotspot use all contribute, i personally have the Lumia 800 but i do agree it has its restrictions compared to my sons galaxy

I completely agree with this statement; Lumia's aren't competitive within the UK, Europe. But I believe that's due to Nokia targeting American users, more specificially the average North American consumer.

They're not selling to well in any European country, however there is demand for them regardless. Especially due to the price of the Lumia 710 within the UK for approximately £130/150 ($205/240 USD), they're selling. Therefore we can all comfortably state that price is a crucial factor.
