DxOMark isn't too happy with the Asus ROG Phone II's camera performance

It's not bad but it's not flagship-worthy, that's for sure.

Especially their audio test right now is severely flawed. But photo is not perfect. And if it was and you were so hung up on them then according to their scores the Asus Rog 2 is doing very well. Just not matching the best of the best.

So which is it? Dxo is perfect and the Asus has a great camera. Or it's crap and dxo is fake?

    Dxomark is spot on with their scoring system. Fanboys can't handle it and use the money excuse.

      Anonymous, 17 Jan 2020People actually bought this phone ???i have, for its screen and speakers. i also bought the galaxy note 10 plus and xperia 1 last year but i sold them both after a month, while i kept this one here.

        Asus still wins. I'll take a rog phone than a galaxy anyday.

            That's a worthless excuse. However the camera works well enough anyway so you dont even need a lame excuse like that in the first place.

              Not sure why this is even important. For gamers like us, we hardly use the camera. We would rather have performance coming from a phone than having a top of the shelf camera on a phone increasing the price of it. I personally do not even use the camera unless it's an urgent photo of something.

                    with ported gcam it shots looks fine. also couldn't find sharper 4K shooter here in gsma tool. Its more of sw issue, hw is awesome.

                      Asus can't afford the massive payment to DxOMark like Xiaomi or Oneplus... There is no "hope" for Asus' camera segment... At least as far as these ""objective"" scorings go.

                              dxo takes pictures in all kinds of scenarios and have detailed comparisons, and you can easily find what is most imortant for your use.

                              displaymate takes low brightness calibration and claims a winner, but no one uses their phone at essentially 0 lux ambient lighting as normal use. Only on some models do they mention the actual color volume etc. at a decent brightness setting, relevant for normal use, but certainly not always and you really have to dive into the complete review to find it.

                              In short most of displaymate's reviews are pretty worthless compared to normal use.

                              Their review methodology makes sense for TV's/projectors for home theater use, in 0 lux ambient lighting, not for smartphones and not even for normal indoor dimly lit living room TV use.

                              The most accurate mode gets washed out in ambient lighting, so the whole "who is better" per their tests is 100% BS in real world usage. The devices "worst" mode can be better.

                              Take the Samsung Note10+, the best display they have reviewed in it's best setting, "Natural". Which GSMarena measured to have dE2000 of 2.4 with maximum deviation of just 3.4, so clearly displaymate got a better version. Theirs also reached a whopping cree LED flashlight grade peak Brightness of 1,308 nits. I'll assume that is on a limited 1-5% of the screen to avoid the ABL of AMOLED. Not on fullscreen displaying white, which would be much lower, like gsmarena's measurement of 794 nits.

                              But anyways, Note10+ in Natural (best mode in a 0 lux environment and 0-120 nits display brightness) looses it's color volume when there is ambient lighting and brightness of the screen is at a normal level. So in the real world the Natural mode is only capable of showing 77-87% of the color spectrum. When sunny outside it drops further to about 60%. The best fix is to use vivid mode, which at 0 lux ambient lighting is explosively colorful, but is at least capable of displaying all colors at higher ambient lighting. Sadly for the most normal ambient lighting, this can still be too much, whilst Natural is too weak.

                              Even better would be if Samsung, and others, automatically boosted colors as per ambient lightning, not just brightness which causes washout. This is one of the features finally being more widely implemented on new TVs in 2020, which currently also just adjusts brightness/backlight automatically - if enabled. Toshiba has been playing around with this for quite some time, but only on flagships.
