We finally have a good idea of everything that sets these three apart.

I had hoped the Ultra without curved screen... Damn it.
No 20 for me then :-/
Must keep my Mate 20 X for another year then.

I'm a bit confused here. Is it possible to do 8k video recording with 12MP camera ?

5000 mAh battery is the 2020 thing for handheld computers. (:

I hope the 4k is a lot more detailed and cinematic and the 8k is perfectly usable for better information.

Samsung should work with the team at Handbrake or some other developer to make 8k downres to 4k, improving colour bit depth and sharpness significantly. That's could be very useful for filmmakers.

Cloud1704, 18 Jan 2020How i wish the make a version of s20 with S20 ultra camera ... moreYep, my preference too. An Ultra e. With a flat screen, few mm wider, and many mm shorter. Can increase the depth 1mm, be a nice seller.

The smaller one here has many camera compromises, and it's a shame. I get the space issue, but come one, devices under 150 mm need more representation. The current S10e is a real nice size, ver easy to handle.

Such a shame that every year new flagship phones come out they have to be bigger and heavier than the previous. ok more tech inside and bigger batteries but where will the size and weight increase end? No one even refers to them as phablets anymore as its become the norm. Please still make decent spec 5" compact phones, i have no good comments to make on these big ugly things.

That shaky effect pretty much obliterates any additional details you might perceive by turning stabilization off so it's not worth it.

But if you a way to keep the device still then I agree with you.

I do understand how stabilization works, pros/cons, but that bit about 'actual data' that's in a video deciding how hard a PC has to work, was something new to me. Appreciate the insight. Will look more into it.

Abhi-Darth-Plagueis, 18 Jan 2020So what's the bit rate going to be on 8k 30 FPS? will peopl... moreI wouldn't worry about that at all since videos that come from a phone are really lightweight in data and that's what matters the most to CPU. Resolution is not the factor of how intensive PC has to work on it but resolution and framerate do bump up the data but not that significantly. Average or below average can play and edit phone recorded UHD video no problem cause the native bitrate is dismal at 50Mbps. I expect 8K to do around 118 but wouldn't be surprised if it does 98.

And that's where all this marketing with recording resolution trickery really gets exposed. 1080p recording on the phone is limited to 15Mbps because they want to sell you 4K recording and they have to prove you that 4K is indeed better quality and the best way to do so is to clog the data tap on the bandwidth of 1080p. If 1080p was able to record in 50Mbps just like 4K does it would actually look better than 4K in every aspect, first and foremost the field view (cause 4K actually crops HD/FHD view which itself crops VGA field of view), there would be a lot more light going through sensor receives which would result in better details, sharper separation and so on. It would also improve detail loss when video stabilization is turned on, btw did you know video stabilization is the number one cause of really poor video image quality? This is how it works, in FHD/HD it corps the view in order to stabilize it utilizing software exactly how image stabilization is done in post production, in 4K there is no room for additional crop cause it's already cropped so software really struggles to make something out of it but it doesn't have enough pixels to work with so major loss of detail happens while image doesn't get stabilized as good as FHD/HD. If your phone allows you to turn stabilization off please turn it off.

I called it. 8K/30 video is happening. Some guy was arguing that it ain't happening, but you can see that it's happening.

I do wonder though if they're using the telephoto for the 8k on the Non-Ultra models? That would be stupid, but i guess they just want to be the first to launch 8k/30 instead of doing it properly. It's either that, or 8K is only gonna be possible on the Ultra model. We'll have clarity soon enough.

It's a test bed for Samsung and bragging rights for a user and that's about it. Don't be surprised if it's on only 5% better than regular S20 main shooter. Of course Samsung can always cripple S20/S20+ cameras in order to push Ultra and show the world how much better it is. We will find out but yeah you don't need Ultra camera, don't expect nothing revolutionary or major difference between two stacks.
