Apple's A9 chip has the single core prowess of a SD845, so I guess it will fare will also with the next ios iteration.

Back then, my friend has his iphone 4s tanking when he got whatever was the latest update during its time.

Yep, S8 line-up should have got the update, but Sammy decided to play greedy.
Otherwise ios14 launching this autumn will be supported by the iphone 6s line-up from 2015 making it 6 years of support. Don't tell me apple isn't greedy. Greed is one thing, but deciding to cut support to a three year flagship just to try and boost s10 sales doesn't look good in my eyes when it comes to customer retention.

S7 / S7 Edge, S8 / S8+, Note 8, non of these get the update and new tablet like S5e get the Android 10 update approximately 1 year after it was released. Samsung makes Apple look like a bargain with 5 years of OS updates...

I've got Android 10 & One UI 2 on my Note9, so far the updates have been fully baked/ tried & tested/ bug free.
IMO the S8/+ & Note8 lines should've got it too, because of Project Treble etc.
You can see that the 4 year old S7, S7 Edge, S7 Active are still getting Security Updates:

They've delivered on what they promised, & are improving, but must keep improving.
3x OS updates & 5 years of security patches would be a good move for existing models (at least flagships), & more going forwards.

Even if nobody cares, it adds functionality that can't exist on ONE UI based on Android 9! You don't even have Pie gestures with ONE UI, thus you need Android 10 on your Samsung if you want those. Then begins the waiting game as always...

this kind of discount only happens in the USA never here in South East Asia. ..... sad !!!! even nowadays a older model phone or tablet still selling the same place even when have promotion also never have such steep discount given

With discounts and prices like this, how does Samsung stay in business? The market is over saturated and only way to make any money nowadays is to milk the cash cows (fans).

That phone has been out for a year and it's natural for it's price to go down. I see it as depreciation more than a discount from Samsung.

But, it will receive security updates for another 1 or 2 years. Which for me is more important than some little changes here in there with some next Android OS.
Yeah I know, Iphone 7, a phone 6 months older than S8 received IOS 13, and probably will receive IOS 14 in 2020. But, I will still not buy another iphone ever again. The power of a smartphone doesn't mean only OS updates.
To be honest, a lot of OS updates are hurting your phone rather than make it better. And this is true for both iphones and android. I would rather buy a phone and receive no other OS updates (just security updates) for 2 or 3 years, if the phone is working perfect.
