The Samsung GT-I9300 Galaxy S III
benchmarks were hosted for a while on
GLBenchmark, left there by a careless tester.
Thankfully, a tipster took a screenshot before
they were taken down, and sent it to us.
With the power of deduction we concluded last
week that the only possible scenario for a
chipset in the Galaxy S III is the officially
    unannounced quad-core Exynos 4412 clocked
at 1.4GHz, which apparently comes with an
ARM Mali-400 GPU, but clocked at 400MHz,
making it 50% faster than the current edition
    in the Galaxy S II.
Since we know that some of you were worried
about the graphics performance with "just" a
50% boost, instead of the sexier sounding "5x
the performance" of Mali T-604 that is in the
Exynos 5 series for tablets, we compared the
screenshot that was tipped to us with the
other heavy hitters. Not all test components
are filled with the non-final unit, but what's
there paints quite the rosy picture.
As you can see, the results from what is likely
still a prototype Galaxy S III unit, beat the
current Android king Snapdragon S4, beat
Tegra 3 by a large margin, take over the
iPhone 4S by a tad in most GPU test
components, and even hold their own against
the mighty quad-core PowerVR graphics in the
new iPad. Since we already heard rumors
about "superlative" benchmarks from the new
Exynos , we are inclined to believe the same
will be true for the CPU as well.
Long story short, until we see some
benchmarks from the Adreno 320 GPU in the
next Snapdragon, or if the next iPhone uses
the same PowerVR as the new iPad (which
wouldn't make much sense), the Samsung
Galaxy S III could very well rule them all in its
finalized version. Therefore worries that the
phone doesn't have the Cortex-A15 based
Exynos 5 series inside, which has actually
been developed by Samsung to power high-
    resolution tablets, are apparently premature.

This is a lot of fuss for a phone that has be reported to Cnet as only the upgrade to the S2. Samsung have done a real good job of holding everyone on tender hooks and the fact that nobody has seen the phone yet is another amazing thing not even Apple have been able to do that as the iphone 4 leaked all over the web.

Of course if Samsung only release the upgrade to the S2 they are over. I dont believe that we are going to see any phones today and the major thing is in May.

But i am so enjoying the fact that people get so worked up about
a phone and the the fact that people are dispointed in a phone that they have not even seen yet. Good job Samsung

Anonymous, 23 Apr 2012All your points valid, why don't you buy a game pad of some... moreI've got a Vita!
And there's no comparison for mobile gaming than that...

            But...

            Going back to your point..

Yes, I love being able to have my GS2 the way I want it, I have about 4 or 5 different launchers (from SPB 3D to Launcher 7) and yes I can have it MY way... but ultimately I'm pushing the same widgets around in a different format, whether it's Shazam, G+, whatever it is, and I'd love to get an Asus Transformer Prime Infinity and have an Android tablet - but again, without the infrastructure there, it's all this freedom, but a diluted experience..

And there there's always the option of jailbreaking once iphone 5 gets established(!) which gives much more freedom... similar to me rooting my GS2 and having Darkyrom ICS with in-built Nova launcher (which is simply the best ROM out there)

Yes I have my phone exactly how I want it, but when friends, etc. are using services like Raptr and all the other stuff that simply isn't available on Android, it makes me wonder am I rebelling for the sake of it? And cutting my nose off to spite my face?!? I reckon iphone could be as powerful as android once jailbroken...

You seem to be interested in games a lot. Android is no match to Apple when it comes to games as you have correctly noticed, but the freedom of choice you get with Android is perhaps what most people opt for, freedom of hardware manufacturer, freedom of software, and basically having some choice.

AnonD-21645, 23 Apr 2012I had an epiphany over the weekend... For years I've bee... moreI completely agree with you. I had SGS-1 (which I was not happy with) and then I moved to my first iOS device iPhone-4 (and later got iPad-1 also which was crap at-least due to less RAM) and some weeks ago I bought Galaxy Note and realized that how difficult is to get good Game for Android due to fragmentation means NOT even a single good/HD game is available for all devices and CPU types.

You find some working on some devices and others on others. This is really bad as compare to iOS app/games infrastructure and single device per year (or at-least same hardware for some time).

Thus I am also looking towards next iPhone and if its sreen is greater than 4-inches then there is no doubt that I won't go for iOS again and leave Android alone.

Seriously, can samsung not be any different? Its all rip-offs. FYI Nokia's been there, done that with SmartphoneBetaTest.

I had an epiphany over the weekend...

For years I've been a supporter of Android...
Having had Android phones for 3+ years now...
Owning an HTC Hero, GS1 and GS2...

And now with all this hype over the GS3...

I realised that despite all these great phones (and they are great) like GS3, Xperia S, HTC One X, etc. none of them have the functionality / app infrastructure of iOS... and the dreaded iphone...

No matter how sharp your screen is, no matter how good your camera or how many cores you have - if you don't have the games or the apps or the developers making quality software for it, it all becomes a bit redundant...

I bought my other half an ipad for their birthday a few weeks ago, and after initially scoffing at the idea of it and how pointless it is... seeing it synched with everything so easily, with the phone and imac... and then just the number of games that I'm interested in (amongst all apps that take an age to come out on Android afterwards and are normally inferior..)

I just think that unless developers get behind Android more (forget that it has more apps than iOS or more downloads - it's quality not quantity..) then Android could well lose a lot of support..

I'm going to wait to see what the iphone 5 has in store - if it's over a 4" screen, I'm afraid I may just jump ship... despite how swanky and amazing the GS3 will no doubt be...

Well I guess if we're going to continue to troll fanboys till the end of time we need to have some turnover... stick an overpowered camera in it. Haha. No, trust me we'll sell some.
