Recording 8K video with a Galaxy S20 will take a toll on storage, but not as much as you think

All three of the new Samsung flagships support 8K. You can upload the videos to YouTube, stream them to a QLED TV or pull 33MP stills from them.

      Reason s6 had overheating issues at the point device had to reboot.

        Even in LATAM, 8K tvs are available already.
        You can edit, crop and downsample to 4K. It will look better than 4K recorded by same device.

            5min = 3GB, means 30 min would be 18GB. Now let's suppose with better bitrate it was 5min = 6GB, then we would have 36GB/30min.

            You could easily pass it to sd card before while recording again.


              Why record in 8k on a phone that has a 1440p display, even 4k is too much unless you have one of those 4k display Sony phones or if you're into watching your phone's videos on a 4k monitor/TV.

Obviously higher bitrate would allow for lesser compression, and hence offer better quality, but you have to remember that these phones have limited space, and most customers wouldn't be happy about their storage running out so easily. They made the right choice by going for an optimal encoding configuration to balance out size & quality.

                    We're talking about Samsung here, not some random company. They wouldn't have fleshed out this feature (8K) if they weren't satisfied with the quality they were able to provide.

                    Now I'm not saying the 8K footage is gonna be great (it likely won't be), but i think should be decent enough to satisfy the average customer. That IMO is good enough for a first-gen feature. 4K videos were pretty mediocre at the beginning, and only in recent years became impressive. 8K will be no different.

                      Xperia simply is limited to 4K30fps that why it doesn't have any limitation , I can record unlimited 4K30fps too , but with 4K60fps it is capped .
                      also what I meant is that the phone will record up 4gb, then creates a new one once the size is reached
                      so 8K would suffer more with this , so hope next android OS fix this

                                  Sd865, 16GB RAM, QHD+@120Hz displays, 8K recording, and 5G - a lot of power that generates heat - but not once did Sammy mention the s20 series thermal cooling technology.

                                  I wonder will the reviewers also (deliberately) skip out rigorously testing those concerns completely. e.g. 5G downloads, 2-hours of gaming, over 45-minutes of 8K recording, etc.

                                      so 8K24fps probably won't exceed 100Mbps (up to the companies).
                                      also the HEVC isn't perfect 8K we need AV1 support next year and I hope android remove that limitation of 4Gb files.
                                      so S20 series with 128Gb base storage doing just like Iphone 11 series 64Gb base strategy which is a bummer specially with 8K/4K , I'll hear most people don't record at 8K/4K then why buying an 8K/4K phone that have those capabilities , 8K/4K would always looks better on 4K/1080p screens and are futureproof
