Because it's just silly. My guess is, Apple had certain goals and decided to works on a specific design to achieve them.

Seriously? Apple has already designed its 5G phones dummies. They design many years in advance and the iPhone 12 is scheduled to go to production in a few months. Delays resulting from the pandemic virus will likely delay things.

Did Apple learn from bend-gate? Lol. No f'n way. Don't be the dumb-ass early adopter and buy their first generation 5G phone.

5G on a phone is a bit like 2gb home internet used to stream Netflix. For the vast majority of consumers, it doesn't provide tangible benefits. Maybe for future AR applications, but really, who cares about those in daily use after the initial "wow" factor.

I know 5G will be a major selling point, but not for the right reasons. Just like resolutions higher than 1080 on 6" screens, which are pointless for humans with normal vision.

The kids on this site are annoying.

Really no surprise here, they did buy intel modem business for a reason.

By that time, Apple must teach the users how to hold the phone properly so that the 5g antenna wont be blocked....

Another new chapter in Apple's struggling history of getting a 5G modem:
                                    1) Apple started with a partnership with Intel, but Intel fail to deliver.
                                    2) Apple bought the 5G modem division from Intel, and tried to create one within Apple within 2 years, but run into lots of difficulties.
                                    3) Apple then settle their disputes with Qualcomm with big payments for Qualcomm, so that they can use Qualcomm's 5G solutions.
                                    4) After working with Qualcomm 5G solutions for a while, Apple changed mind and decided to work with a lesser-known company.
                                    5) As reported in Feb 14, 2020, Apple is going back to Qualcomm's 5G modem again, but this time Apple will re-design the antenna part.
