Samsung Galaxy Z Flip in for review: a closer look at its unique features

The new form factor offers something new to the table but how does that translate into daily use?

potato4k, 17 Feb 2020Considering it's more durable than the more expensive RAZR,... moreMore durable than the Razr? Nope. Screen is exactly the same but with a more pronounced crease. The fingerprint scanner stops working if you scratch it, the screen burns when overheating and never recovers. Razr doesn't have these last 2 problems. The Snapdragon 855+ in it with such a small body will overheat the phone a lot in time. Jerry's tool cut right through this fake glass and destroyed the pixels inside the screen. The phone didn't break while bending because it has that bumper thing that looks ugly as f*ck anyway and is nowhere near as slim as the Razr.
Also here's the cherry on top. Pure Android devices age waaayyy better than phones with custom skins, specs really don't matter. A 2015 low end Moto E2 is actually faster than a Galaxy S4 in a lot of day to day stuff. The internal memory seems to slow down at a much faster rate because it has to process extra custom skins and apps ALL THE TIME. Heating is also an issue as top of the line processors overheat a lot more causing more depletion to the chip itself. If it were something that happens after 2 years there shouldn't be any problem, but the thing is, we use our smartphones a lot more than before and you can start seeing the effect of this after just 6 months and a couple of updates.
The Fold is a Ferrari with a Elephant on top and the Razr is a empty Volskwagen Golf.

Anonymous, 17 Feb 2020It's more durable than Fold and Razr.Reviewers claims it "feels" better in the hand compared to the Razr and the Fold but this garbage GLASTIC still scratches at the exact same level as plastic at level 2 and deeper groves at level 3.

I had always flip nokia at the time i liked it somehow.

After seeing this whole debate. I've learnt one thing. People can be really biased about their opinions & conclusions regarding their favorite brands. The same people who are defending Samsung with scientific reasons, would not have done the same for a brand they dislike (e.g. Apple, Huawei). In such a case, they would've looked at it in a very practical way, and never even brought up science.

The So called UTG scratches with fingernails, the same as plastic does. Calling it "Ultra Thin GLASS" gives the wrong impression to uninformed buyers regarding it's durability & scratch resistance. It's false advertising, plain and simple.

But I'm sure they would have scientific reasons for calling it glass, so they can't be sued & that's all that we should care about... or so I'm told.

Can you make video calls when closed?
Can you open it with one hand easily or is it better with two?
How does it feel in the pocket? Because it is bumpy.
What about getting it in/outside the pocket? Probe to miss and drop it in the process?

They already made missleading advertisment years ago with "waterproof" phones.

It appears that a fresh out of the kitchen table birthday cake has a tougher surface than Z's display. I like the idea of a small footprint foldable phone but apparently Z flip's screen has very serious flaws.

I'm pretty sure Samsung could name it ultra thin plastic as well and it wouldn't be wrong. Since for this type of product glass sounds something very durable, Samsung named it glass. It is so thin that it would be almost impossible to prove that it is marketing trick.
Let's see, a lot of people will have questions now and hopefully we will get also some answers. But one thing is clear - technology is still developing and this product is still far from perfect.

Anyone analyzed the screen here in the comments? Or did you just see an average guy on YouTube who did nothing more than scratch a flexible display?

Basic physics: anything flexible is soft. But not everything soft is plastic. So unless you analyzed the composition of the display with actual tools and actual measurements, you don't know if it's ultra thin glass or plastic. None of us do.

Besides, that would be a lie too big for them. If they were found to be lying, they'd be fined in an instant

Remember, physics still exists in this world. If you want a foldable phone, something has to be foldable, and once there's a point of moving parts, that's a point of failure.

Want a more durable phone? Stop wanting to beat the laws of physics.

The phone is fragile and it is not using actual flexible glass like Samsung is advertising.

Anyone that owns the phones needs to be really careful with it.
