This is certainly not tempered glass, and glass thin and soft enough(hardness greatly varies with composition) could exhibit a point puncture (think a dent on glass caused by a pebble, just on a microscopic scale) damaging the display underneath. Have you seen the flexible display prototypes over the years that don't have glass on them? They're as flexible as plastic protection film and don't crack like the screen did in the teardown.
JRE made an observation based on very limited testing and it turns out to be wrong, IMO his video looked like clickbait from how eager he was to draw controversial conclusions.

If you can scratch it with a fingernail then why would Samsung use plastic to protect glass which is more durable?? Come guys wake up and stop trying to sound so clever about all this with your answers. It's plastic

I dont think you understood what Anonymous said.
The Z Flip does have glass and it is UTG but on top of that glass it a thin plastic film EXACTLY like what the Galaxy Fold had which is what he meant and that is what got scratched so easily exactly like the FOLD.

I own a Galaxy S10, which I love. But I don't care how you put a spin on it, it shouldn't literally be called "glass"

Actually, I think the Substrate used for making the AMOLED screen is actually Glass, but they have put a Plastic layer on top cos the glass was waayy too thin.
Seems like it will take a bit more of a time to have a decently durable Folding Phone.

UTGCBUTP or Ultra Thin Glass Covered by Ultra Thin Plastic doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Nor does it work for a marketing strategy. I think everyone is to blame. Samsung did not hide the fact that their glass was covered by a similar plastic used on the Fold. Many reviews just chose not to speak about it.
I read it, thought it was strange for a moment and put it to the back of my mind. As long as it was more durable, who cares. People protect glass phones all the time with plastic. Its called a screen protector.
However, now that the durability is being called into question regardless of the material, it does hurt the Z Flip. I had no intent to buy it. I was only interested in the screen's durability.

So its a thin layer of glass (maybe composite) protected by plastic.
Results? Scratch at Level 2, the same durability as the Fold & Razr which using fully plastic. No difference. That means u have to be careful if u have long nails lol.
Conclusion? Yes, the 'foldable glass' terms used by Samsung are just PR stunt & marketing at its best. Even if its a true material, theres zero benefit compare to plastic.

At 10:54 minutes he puncture the screen and if there really is a glass under the screen protector we will see many cracks around the puncture hole, but we only see an ordinary hole that will happen to the plastic screen protector when it pierced.

NOBODY can make glass folding...You can't make the impossible. Foldable mobiles are NOT the future... It's a new trend that will past soon...
Besides the majority of those you used folding phones are much older than 50...And the majority of the NORMAL smart phones have never seen such useless feature...

It is reported by some people on Twitter that the UTG used on this phone is covered by a thick layer of polycarbonate protective film, which makes it have the same hardness as Galaxy Fold's plastic display. So technically Samsung wasn't lying about the use of glass on this phone - but just like Pixel 4/LG G5's primer-covered metal frame or iPhone's camera lens with a sapphire coating, it doesn't act like how it is implied to by their promotional material because of the way it is implemented, and of course people got mad because when they heard "glass" they expected Gorilla Glass 6 level scratch-resistant protection.
Such a good example of why companies should be very careful with their marketing methods.. Oh, I'm also looking at you, Apple, Huawei and Xiaomi. You guys should take some notes from this case.

The display is actually ... moreIf you peel that screen protector, the display breaks and suffer damage so the screen protector "must" be considered as part of the display for you. So unless you apply a second screen protector, if that original screen protector is damaged with your nails you'll have to play $119 dollars for the first replacement and who nows if $499 for the second one, third, etc... In fact the article says that Samsung will offer a special screen protector to add it above the first one that is part of the display. And not a generic one, only in specialized centers. LOL. Garbage, literally.
