Anonymous, 02 May 2012The mistake Sony has made is ditching the SE Arc styling. ... moreThat would be my dream phone. 4.2"-lightweight-stylishly poised... only let down was the single core for me.

Here you have adjusted comparison table:

Phone - Power per Hz (Antutu/Ghz)
      Xperia P - 53.25
      SGSII - 52.08
      SG Note - 46.37

      - FPS per 1 pixel (Nenamark/pixelcount)
      Xperia P - 151.37
      SGS II - 198.14
      SG Note - 325.44

That i believe says a bit clearly on pure power of drivers/SW implementation.
If you open Xperia P whitepapers from Sony webpage it says GPU - Adreno 205???!!!

AnonD-36731, 02 May 2012I don't think it is all about performance to price. Many p... moreThen you should consider Motorola Atrix.
It also has a 4" screen - with same qHD resolution - Dual-core @ 1Ghz, 1GB RAM, 8MP shooter, Gorilla glass + it features a finger print reader, Webtop and a much bigger battery. Almost 2000mAh in the Atrix vs. 1305 in the Xperia P.

Oh, and GSM Arena, plase stop using the SII to compare benchmarks. It's got a galactically low screen res, helping it achieve (artificially) high benchmarks. Even the simple 1Ghz, 320 x 480 SE Xperia Active beats the SII's benchmark scores in some aspects due to it's low screen res. Better choice? No.

Even the three year old Motorola Droid/Milestone (550Mhz, 256MB RAM) has higher screen resolution than the SII. It's better if you compare towards other phones with similar screen resolution, as long as there is.

The SII could just as well have had a single core 1.4Ghz with a standard clocked SGX540 GPU or Tegra 2, Adreno and 512-768MB RAM. No difference at that screen res in gaming. For very heavy multitasking, a 1Ghz dual-core would suffice. Clocking it to 1.2Ghz was only to get higher numbers, no practical difference, even though it meant half a day in battery life.

              The way I see it:
              480 x 854/480 x 800/320 x 480 = Single cores + suitable GPU (Adreno 205, SGX540@200MHz)
              540 x 960 = Dual-cores + suitable GPU (Tegra 2, SGX540@384/400 Mhz, Mali400MP)
              720 x 1280 = Quad-core + suitable GPU (Tegra 3, SGX 543MP2, Mali 400MP)

              Tablets:
800 X 1280 tablets is OK to have dual-core + decent GPU, as it's user areas might well differ from phone usage.
Ideally, quad-core CPU + top end GPU for tablet gamers (+ 1920 x 1080 screen res).

There is a big difference in the two GPU: Galaxy sII has quad core mali 400MP, on the other hand Xperia P has a dual core mali 400MP

                      - sgs 2 proc = dual core with higher clock

anyway i feel the bias against sony again..xperia p and u (same proc) should compete with the same price range ($300-$400).. with sgs 2 (~$600 before discontinued) and galaxy note (~$700 here), it's obvious the xperias are inferior

The ST Ericsson chip GPU is a Mali-400 MP1 while the Samsung Exynos is a Mali-400 MP4 so I would say it is holding up pretty well.
