                    Google use the VP9 codec cos they don't want to adopt the industry standard for 4K HDR.
                    When it comes to anything 4K apple absolutely destroys everyone.
                    An iPhone can playback 4K Dolby Vision videos from all other sources and even Youtube through third party apps.

                    iPhones are the best video recording phones. It's a fact.
                    Recording in 4K and playing back youtube videos are completely irrelevant and anyone with basic knowledge in electronics/software would know that.

                      It's still best to watch native content on their respective native display for the best viewing experience

That number is an estimation, an avera... moreoh, yes, i see. i forgot about that bit- movement or panning. the videos i did take are mostly of landscape with very little movement and the phone was in a tripod so there is no panning as well. sorry. that could be the reason indeed i only was showing around 7GB on an hour of 4k 30fps footages i took.

                              You can tell a lot of Android users here are from countries where PC isn't really a thing and their only method of getting online is their phone.

                              For storage, HEVC is very efficient. A 24:57 @4K30 outdoor video I took a few weeks ago is only 1.12GB.

                              Heating isn't an issue either as I use my Pro Max to shoot airplane taking off and landing videos for my YouTube channel and often the phone is recording 30 minutes long clips while attached to the window under direct sunlight.

                                It's not 4K, because no iOS device can "handle" more than 1080p on YouTube, Google it :D Not even "4K" Apple TV can use more than 1080p.
                                It's probably that simple - they are lazy and they lack in this departement for years.

                                  That number is an estimation, an average if you will. In reality, it depends a lot on the movement (differences in the scene) and in the light. Less movement after some time will make the bitrate to go down, and the same applies to the light; in a dark environment the codec will decide to use fewer bits.

                                  It's kinda cool that even that all the recording is done in real time, the codec still has some freedom to make choices. But that behavior only occurs after some minutes into the recording.

                                  Edit- I forgot to tell, it can also increase the bitrate if, after a couple of minutes in a dark environment, you move quickly to a brighter scene, And those peaks in bitrate are really nasty (I've seen some above 100Mbps for 5 seconds).

                                      It is a reason and it’s not ”issue”. Apple don’t put 4K videos on youtube, that’s why there isn’t option to turn 4K on because there isn’t 4K video. Youtube doesn’t support hevc codec which Apple uses. That’s why they won’t upload 4K videos on youtube.

                                      Just google it and you find plenty of articles about.
