Weekly poll: can the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Pro Max win your affections?

22 March 2020
The Max model has better camera hardware and supports faster charging, the regular Note 9 Pro is slightly more affordable. Which do you prefer?

I'm taking the Pro just because of the Sony camera sensor vs Samsung. It's definitely not a much better value, but the camera won't let you down.

Just buy Note 8 Pro, 22 Mar 2020Note 8 Pro is cheaper, faster and better... ;-)It's not faster, and for sure note better. But also not worth to upgrade from 8 pro to 9 pro maks.

YUKI93, 22 Mar 2020I am a photography man myself, but depth sensor on smartpho... moreThen you should know that you can change lenses on a camera, which give you many options and allow you to basically capture anything you want providing you have the knowledge and gears adapted for what you want to do.
On Smartphone that's different, as I said, they rely heavily on AI to render the image, which is the whole point of having multiples sensors or binning image binning, because they lack the sensor size and the ability to have swapable objectives (the reason why so many Smartphone put so many camera).
So yeah they do fake effects because they lack the physical ability to do real ones, they don't have variable aperture or physical shutter, so they need to use numerical compensation for simulating many of those features, and the day will come where Smartphone's camera will have way better quality than any physical devices because AI will get to a point where it can enhance the image further than what light gathering can allow for any sensors, and this is because of additional sensors like ToF that this will be possible.
I am not saying Depth Sensors are magical, but they still improve the image, for the moment this is not perfect as the AI is still in his infancy, but in the future it will be almost as important as the camera itself.
Also, while you can tweak lots of aspect of your physical camera and then edit your picture to obtain the desired result, Smartphone have to be setup to be multiroles, they can't just specialize in a certain type of picture or in a certain type of situation, which is why face and scene detection is quite important as the AI will try to improve the best through the presets, but even there it is only a "best case scenario".
So even if it doesn't look like much, the Depth sensor, when properly used, actually do quite a lot !
And if there is no real improvement compared to the RAW, it simply mean they have a shitty AI or don't use the real potential of this additional sensor, but don't blame it on the ToF sensors.
Monochrome sensor are another example of a lens that without being used directly can dramatically improve picture quality.
Anyway you have the choice between a dedicated depth sensor or a camera sensor that also do depth mapping for more than the price of the same sensor without depth mapping + depth sensor.

Neither have NFC even after the Note 8 Pro and Note 8t did.

              Very, very disappointed

xiaomi misses the mark this time around, refresh rate and quick charging are the way to go now. knowing how redmi releases goes, it's probably not worth it now considering in 6 months there would be redmis (note 10?) conforming with the trend

BTW not worth to upgrade from 8 pro to 9pro/maks. I'm switching phone every 2/2.5 year's and in that time upgrade is much bigger and I can feel real difference.

Honestly speaking, the only notable difference I see between the RN9 Pro/Pro Max and RN8/RN8 Pro are the chipset and the battery, that's it. Everything else is pretty much identical. If I got myself an RN8 or RN8 Pro, I don't think I'll be switching to RN9 any time.

I hope to come in europe with NFC and the next Xiaomi REDMI 10 to come with an amoled display and IP68 dustproof. Last but not least Sony Sensors for the photo cameras and LED notification ( XIOMI REDMI 10).

Booby Pongo, 22 Mar 2020Too big, as everything out there. For crying out loudI'd say it's too tall (by ruoghly 15mm). Maybe it's we got back to the thicker and shorter designs, huh?

I'd never be interested in buying a smartphone with a punch-hole camera. Even dumber than having a notch.

Anonymous, 22 Mar 2020No high refresh screen and useless depth sensor. Pass.Peoples into photography will find the Depth sensor way more valuable than Refresh Rate which doesn't add more when mainly working with still images or browsing simple apps/websites.
It's all a matter of taste and use case, the punch hole though is really a negative thing for everyone as it have no practical use, but both High Refresh Rate and other display enhancement, and Depth Sensor and other photography features have their use.
From Bokeh effects to enhanced informations to improve the image (Smartphone don't rely on hardware alone as the sensor is too small, the most important part of Smartphone Photography happen on software level where the more informations is always the better), the Depth Sensor and any ToF sensors in that regard are far from useless.
