PHIL_SPENCER, 18 Mar 2020JAJAJAJAJ no way, are you serius? this console is such undu... morePs5 hard drive more than twice as fast as xbox.

Welcome to the Future.

Kangal, 19 Mar 2020There's a lot of marketing jargon in that presentation, and... more--Exclusives determine the winner of console wars. XBox has few Exclusives.
-- the power difference is not 25%. A slightly powerful cpu but slightly lower gpu wont make xbox more powerful. A lot also depends on OS and how developers use it.
-- how many people really consider playing a 15 year old games while buying a console?
-- MS has a stronger online gaming service but we still don't know how much that would influence people while buying the new generation console.

Playstation will win once again. MS has a loyal user base in US but rest of the world goes with Playstation. anyway we should enjoy whatever we get offered.

Don't forget about ps5 pro is the surprise of Sony

I do wonder if MS lost an opportunity here.
        Just hear me out.

For the upcoming generation, these are the specs we EXPECTED:
        1.6GHz RDNA-1 32cu/2048shader
        3.2GHz Zen2 8core/16thread
        32GB GDDR6/512Gbps
        1TB SSD (TLC-3D NAND)
        $399 / Q3 2020
(overall, roughly x8 more powerful than the Xbox One)
...and the PS5 has exceeded this slightly, and the XSX even moreso.

There's a good likelihood that console launch prices will increase due to:
        - New market conditions (phones are over $1000, more frequent console releases)
        - Inflation (value of money keeps decreasing)
        - Short-term supply-price hikes (COVID-19)
.....so we shouldn't be surprised if it is announced at $499 or even $599

What if MS got ahead of the curve, and released a console without a BluRay drive?
And to entice buyers (compensation?) they could have bumped up the specs:
        1.6GHz RDNA-2 64cu/4096shader
        3.2GHz Zen2 8core/16thread
        32GB GDDR6/512Gbps
        1TB SSD (TLC-3D NAND)
        $599 / Q3 2020
(a beastly x16 more powerful than the Xbox One)

So now people want it. And they're willing to pay an extra $100 over the PS5 for a HUGE performance uplift. Yet, each unit sold is costing $100 loss. So in reality, there is actually a $300 price difference. However MS has enough funding to allow and account for it. Yet, MS can recuperate some money early on. In the long-run, they will make much more money since this console is ALL DIGITAL. So all games purchases are through MS, who now get a larger share of profits. They've essentially kicked out Game Stop, Electronics Boutique, Kmart, Target, and many retailers from a piece of the pie. Not to mention the used market like eBay, Craigslist, and Gumtree.

They tried to do this with the original Xbox One, but it largely backfired. Why? They were charging a higher price, for a slower console, the internet infrastructure was worse, and some of their policies were draconian (always on kinect wtf?). Thanks to Sony's decent showcasing with the PS4, it forced MS to back-peddle. Hence, the reason they failed was because they underestimated their opponent. One way they could make the Xbox V a success, is if they tricked Sony. They could have ordered and built the next-gen prototype much much weaker, and allow heaps of leaks to get out. It's a dirty tactic. Yet, all is fair in love/war.

Sony might intentionally be starting with a lower model,so as to top it with future updates.

As of now, it does seem like Xbox has a substantial lead. But PCIe 4.0, on PS 5, is badass.

In the end, since AMD started offering them a semi-custom piece of innards, they both have become largely a heavily customised oem gaming PC solution. Hence the frequent updates/models in the same series.

NVIDIA could make a game console with 8 player raytraced VR game world's in one room. This is lame, like a PS3 into sequence. Have they lost the vigor? Unless I can install Linux or Windows on it, and use those apps, I think I'll give it a miss. Let's show you a real game system, now, today.

Anonymous, 19 Mar 2020thought this is a phone site? not a gaming console site? l... moreMobile smartphone and console game integration is a part of smartphone user experience for a while now... especially considering PlayStation.
So PS news items are also of interest for smartphone users.

Well, XBox already has a more powerfull processor than PS4, but it didnt help em at all. Its what you use it for.

PS5 will again have a great VR support (over 500 titles and counting) and new VR headset coming, mobile integration, RemotePlay, just much better controller, better support from developers.
So yeah, user experience will again be much better, and it will sell more.

Been playing on my PS4, ingame mobile support and VR gaming, for a while now and... its rather cheap but also superb experience.

XBox doesnt offer that kind of added user experience value.

                      Thanks for the short summary!

Justpassingby, 19 Mar 2020Ok so this suck compared to Xbox Series X (what a dumb name... morenaming convention is bizarre, but it make sense as they apparently mid range unannounced xbox series s which is cheaper but less powerful than series x, not too disimilar to current gen, xbox one s and premium priced xbox one x, whether they compete with sony is probably determined on the number and variety of exclusive games which current gen xbox one does not really have much of these.

                          Xbox will lose once again.

i'm still in favor of the game over the power.i'm more into casual gamer (not competitive/online gamer)..that the reason i'm buying ps4 over the xbox one even though people said xbox one x is faster..if ps5 still offer the game exclusive that not available on other platform then

There's a lot of marketing jargon in that presentation, and its to hide the fact that this isn't some groundbreaking new device.... its more of a catching-up to Mainstream PCs. They really don't have any hardware where it improves upon the X.

The MS Xbox Series X is shaping up to be a USD$599 device to launch in Early November. I believe the PS5 is going to be launching in Late November, and for USD$499. If this is the case, the PS5 is the better offer. However, availability will be severely limited for the first 6 months. If they're both at the same price, either $499 or $599, then the Xbox Series X looks like the better value.

                                    Here's why;
                                    - practically has full backwards compatibility with the 2001, 2005, and 2014 consoles.
                                    - upscales old games to run better and smoother.
                                    - cross-play with other devices like PC or Nintendo.
                                    - better servers (speed and stability) of Xbox Live compared to PSN.

And the last advantage, is that the Xbox V/Series X has roughly ~25% more power than the PS5. That's not a huge amount, but it is not nothing. And this is despite the fact if you compare them running at Maximum Performance, or in Standard Performance. For instance; on Max-P the Xbox runs at 3.8GHz CPU-8C and 1.9GHz GPU-52CU, compared to the PS5's 3.5GHz CPU-8C and 2.3GHz GPU-36CU. Whereas on Standard, the Xbox will run at 3.5GHz CPU-8C and 1.6GHz GPU-52C, compared to the PS5's 3.4GHz CPU-8C and 1.9GHz GPU-36CU. Not to mention, I think MS's SDK will be slightly better for developers this time around than Sony's. However both consoles have an weakness or bottleneck, and that is Memory. The Unified Memory of 16GB GDDR6 is enough for games from 2018-2025. After that period its going to be a burden, and not serve too well for its full-lifecycle (2030). This might be a calculated move by both industry giants, as they move into increasing console prices, reducing their lifecycle, and increasing the frequency (so, yeah, expect a new console every 3-4 years, as either a "PS6" or "Pro" the name isn't important).

Overall, the XSX should use slightly less power, create less heat, less noise than the PS5, whilst its providing an extra +25% performance. So kudos to Microsoft and their Team!

Despite all the advantages that the XSX has over the PS5, I do believe the next-gen consoles will eventually be one by the PS5. It won't be a domination like the current-gen. And my reasoning behind this is, Sony has far better Brand Loyalty, and secondly Sony has far more/better exclusive games (first-party franchise) to release later on.
