Its really shameful that some people just out of pure hatred and fanboyism are cursing Nokia, and defaming the pureview. Why cant we just appreciate the innovation? Everybody here must have used a Nokia, atleast once. I am an android user, but not a fanboy. Innovation is always invited, whether from Nokia, Samsung, LG, or any start up company.

AnonD-5465, 08 May 2012dude u insist on posting nonsense and rumors pureview80... moreOkay Mr Hardcore camera guy,

would you like to post any relative data showing how this is "revolutionary"?

    1. The techniques used to get incredible details on images used by the PureView 808 is not new. It's called PixelOversampling which has been done before by some PS cameras as well as some DSLR.

    2. Higher megapixels does not equate to higher image quality unless pixel oversampling is used. Fundamental basics of Camera's still holds true, bigger sensors = better quality images. Care to show me any proof that a higher Megapixel camera with smaller size image sensor and no pixel oversampling can produce a better images than a lower megapixel camera with a bigger sensor?

    3. Camera geeks may buy this that is true, but people "looking for innovation" would not even touch this. This phone is a brick, no one in their right mind would buy a phone that has a small screen, low resolution, a crappy OS that no one cares about, and limited by hardware. Maybe if Nokia marketed the device as a camera with phone capabilities people would buy it.

I wouldn't take the "few Weeks" statement too literal if we look Nokia Mexico's records with previous smartphones launches. As they generally take 3 to 4 months after European launch to be distributed in here. For example N8 took 3 months, or just recently for the Lumia 710 & 800 were just recently launched a few Weeks ago. So I wouldn't be surprised if the official launch it's not until late August or September

As much as I see the 808 as a smashing bit of kit, If it's not subsidised by the networks, it may well bomb in many markets. And that seems to be the problem Nokia will have in releasing it to many markets.
The SIM free price is likely to hit the SGSIII tag and given Samsung proven Galaxy S line, many will opt for that as the safe option.
Me personally, as an N8 owner, will look closely at how both fare. Should the N808 have a market price of ~ £350 area it would def be on my list.

I see lots of comments bashing 808, I own a Nexus S and for me Nexus S is perfect (and N8 should deliver better image quality on photos, not that I care, I have proper ILS/EVIL camera), however, Nokia 808 is bond to be a better phone in several aspects, the main one being the camera.

For the ones dissing the image quality of it, please be aware that the pixel pitch/size is more or less the size of a Canon SX 230 HS, given how well (or bad) it performs it should give an idea of what to expect at pixel level.

At the whole picture though, at wide angle the camera has a sensor area with a size that is comparable to Nikon 1 system, that should also give an idea of what to expect at wide angle, full resolution photo, this assuming (and so far all points to it) that dynamic range and color accuracy are surprisingly good.

It should be a very nice camera phone, the spec bump for Symbian will help the usability of it (as the older ones were far under spec'ed), but not compete with the latest android phones when comes to performance, finally, price wise will probably only worth it for that camera, if not, you can get a similar spec'ed (minus camera) for 1/4th or 1/3th of the price.

An unique phone, that some people will like while others won't. You can't fill everybody's tastes.

manurd350, 08 May 2012Guys, This is not a camera phone. This is a camera with ... moreYet it is the most powerful Symbian smartphone ever built!

I have enjoyed the camera of the N8, but it has not been able to keep up with my smartphone needs. Luckily the 808 has doubled specifications compared to the N8 (which IMO is still a great cameraphone especially for a first smartphone). But I am eagerly waiting for the faster processor and more memory RAM and ROM, and the bigger screen (although the resolution is a bit disappointing). But it does not matter, because the CAMERA IS A MONSTER!!! I Want it NOW!!!
