No micro sd card slot, no headphone jack, no Widevine L1 certification? Might as well buy the Mi 10 than waste money on this overpriced, overhyped phone with cult following. The Xiaomi also don't have all of the above but at least its got a bigger battery, an IR blaster, a better 108megapixel quad camera set up, 8K video and a way cheaper price (€530), things which are vastly more important and appealing than a 120Hz display.

The chinese have adopted the curved screens from Samsung, at a time where now people realize they hate them, and even Samsung tones them down..They were always a little behind most things, the chinese manufacturers.
And whats with spewing out these huge screens and similar phones all the time?
People want reasonable sized phones, 150mm tall/6' screen, no curves.
And yes IP rating.

The pictures at 3x hybrid zoom are still better compared to the 2x telephoto cameras on the market irrespective of lighting conditions. Only Details beyond 4x become unusable.
Samsung's approach may be different, but the end result is what matters..
OnePlus won't have better zoom quality than Samsung with its dedicated telephoto lens.

My question: ...which model will have a Flat Display?
The OnePlus 8 ? The Pro? Neither?
I admit, the IP68 and the 120Hz of the Pro feel like "must haves", making it a legitimate flagship. Where the Base Model feels like an overpriced midrange phone. But if the Pro Model has those annoying curves and is un-wieldy/ergonomic... then it is phone most buyers should avoid. The OnePlus 7 Pro has so many problems, and it all comes back to one thing: Pete Lau's arrogance (he keeps insisting on having the sexiest render and marketing pictures, but he doesn't care about proper photographs and real-world handling).
I doubt things will change, but it's always good to remain hopeful.

It would make no sense for the 8 and 8 lite to have similar displays, making the only differences in processor and cameras. 90hz for their proper flagship wouldn't make sense at all.

I have a feeling looking at these specs that the 8 lite might be scrapped for now, which is why the 8 looks as bare bones as it does. There were rumours that the 8 lite is postponed and there possibly will be issues with supply for the MediaTek processors.
If that's the case, I wouldn't mind seeing a 700$ 8 pro (Whoever said 900$ that's stupid) and a 500$ vanilla 8.

In OnePlus's case, at least the Pro version will have a dedicated telephoto sensor.
