Check out how Huawei’s latest flagship camera setup fares against the competition.

Interesting shootout. The P40's improvements are not as pronounced as Huawei claimed. Good, nonetheless.

What happened to the magical Night Mode? What happened to the rumored Quad Quad Bayer? IMO they should have used a higher resolution sensor (say 108MP) with Nona, Octa or Deca Bayer

I don't care about the update cycle of apple device, I own a Note 10+ and before that a Note 9 etc, but frankly I find kinda messed up the price asked now with the little update "provided". And this should be more a concern for people, no matter what you think :)

Shui8, 27 Mar 2020I think its time Huawei get rid of that Night Mode. Its sin... morei saw that video yesterday, i was astonished by the quality of the camerra in pitch black conditions in standard mode, its night mode was dreadful in that particular demo, maybe because it was handheld or something i dont know but otherwise wow for that initial shot, if samsung could do such a thing with its cameras and avoid all the nasty over processing it would be a phenomenal phone

Despite the software bug in the tint of the telephoto camera that will be fixed before sell it to the public. The P40 Pro cameras are superb. But i like more the design of the Mate series, with a bit of luck, they'll add the periscope cameras to their next Mate phones.

I think its time Huawei get rid of that Night Mode. Its single take on Auto with only 1 sec captured, surpass its own Night Mode. This is what Huawei means about Ultra Vision.

Easily beat others in extremely low light situation, even when others using Night Mode, where GSMarena didnt test.

It would be very useful for 52 - 100mm for example.

For main camera is too small. Periscope will never fit something like 1/1.7" or 1/1.3".

[deleted post]I have a friend that still use his iPhone 7 and he purchased it when it was announced, so kinda yeah ...

Nick Tagataka, 27 Mar 2020Are those lights actually *that* yellow though? I actually ... moreYes. Those old and traditional bulbs that have shape of pear. Sodium vapor. They are still very used because they are cheap.

In many places, they were replaced by flourescent (white and spiral shaped or triple upside down U) or LED.

Very low iso will make scene orange/reddish, high iso makes light yellow.

[deleted post]Some of my friends and colleagues are still rocking with iPhone 6 or even 5S, just saying.

Honestly though, it's time for phone manufacturers to put a real zoom camera with moving lens elements like on original Zenfone Zoom or Vivo Apex. The high ISO performance would definitely suffer, but at least you wouldn't have to switch between multiple telephoto lenses to get the best quality out of it.

That resolution will drop a lot. On another day reading comments of DP Review, someone said that the 64MP of S20 at 3x is about 7MP quality only. That's too low.

And you would have issues with videos at "long end".

I actually never saw truly yellow street lights before, they always have a slight reddish/amber tint to them. With that being said, I've only been to a few countries in my life so I'm not entirely sure what colours they are in other places of the world.

fslwbw11, 27 Mar 2020https://fdn.gsmarena.com/imgroot/reviews/20/huawei-p40-pro-... moreI wholeheartedly agree with your assessment. As much as I like photos taken by P40 Pro in auto, its night mode needs some serious work.

The problem with Huawei's solution is that it gives you an ability to see the effect in real time and you can stop it whenever you want, which in turn means it might be stacking a short burst of JPEG images rather than combining them at RAW level. This could obviously increase the noise & artifacts and image fusion algorithm itself wouldn't be as precise as Google's Night Sight, for example. From these samples I can tell that auto is already good enough for most situations, and I think Huawei needs to work on Apple/Google's style of image processing - ditch the real time preview and opt for much slower shutter speed and lower ISO for maximum quality.
