Galaxy S III has PenTile AMOLED because it lasts longer

11 May, 2012
Samsung says the PenTile AMOLED matrix is more reliable than RGB, that’s why the Galaxy S III uses it.

AnonD-3247, 12 May 2012Now thats a lame excuse to have customer buy their new flag... moreAnd you just figured that now.
This is why peeps are fighting over and over, and this is why Samsung is not serious for most of people.
Make a device that you can upgrade it even when it's 5 years old, like iPhone.
So now i should get rid of SGS2 that i've only had for less then a year

... also I'd prefer to use my screen without reservations that it quite noticeably "wears down", and not even uniformly. I mean, if manufacturer concerned that it will not last long enough for average usable lifetime - this sounds pretty serious. Surely, they've managed to extend it with PenTile, but problem still here.

Also present AMOLEDs have more pronounced colour banding. I assume this is either because they either have inherently lower precision or because they try to shrink colour gamut from one that is actually used in attempt to de-saturate primaries.

My oh my, so much for Samsung's acclaimed screen "breakthrough". It can't even withstand the test of time. Now it seem going with S-LCD and IPS technology was the right choice after all. I won't be surprise if IPS technology catches up with S-AMOLED and surpass AMOLED altogether. The results are already apparent with HTC One series.

Now thats a lame excuse to have customer buy their new flagship device. They need S2 users to abandon their device fearing that the screen will not perform to its potential after 1-2 years usage and buy their next Galaxy device. Suddenly out of the blue, Super AMOLED Plus is inferior to PenTile AMOLED and for one year Samsung called this device their FLAGSHIP?? I recently purchased S2 (i9100) and this statement makes me feel stupid to invest my hard earned money in Samsung. Should have bought Xperia S instead of S2.

And to the person complaining about it being unsuitable because of over saturated colours and too much contrast to do any sort of serious graphic work, why would you you even want to do any sort of graphic work on a mobile phone? That's why we have high quality monitors of 17 inches or bigger,a mobile phone is just that-a portable communications device.

Hmmm interesting. I'm currently using SGSII, and two years of lifespan, sad. But oh well I change phones every one year, and this year is no exception. SGSIII!!. So doesn't affect me too much. Besides, as of now it still look awesome as it is on the first day.

Weak excuse. It's not that the device would be more expense for the consumers, it's that it would cut into their high profits. Using the price that it coat Apple to build a 16GB iPhone 4S as a yardstick ($184 iirc) you get an idea of how much they are making.

Color rendition also depends on the actuity of the eye, distance viewed, angle of view, screen size, and ppi.

when it comes to LCD, to an extent they dont burn in at one place or at any corner. The entire screen goes faded/dimmed. but because its the whole screen and we keep watching it daily, there are less chances to figure it out.

Honestly, my GS1 never had any problem till date. Not all gnex, note users are complaining, are they? i feel sorry for the unlucky ones. Be it a marketing trick or anything, pentile does have some advantages.
