CEO posts OnePlus 8 Pro night time photos, compares them against another phone

09 April 2020
The 48MP sensor supports 4-in-1 pixel binning, which was used in the wide-angle shot. There's also a telephoto sample.

So far very disappointed with telephoto sensor, which is old 8 MP sensor used now in low budget phones. So OnePlus will be the worst flagship phone when talking about zoom capability and even x2 or x3 zoom imagine quality.

The video clip is VERY impressive.

As for night photos - that remains to be seen.

Anonymous, 09 Apr 2020why not black or middle Eastern? one plus is narrow mindedOr oneplus has their preferences, just like any others.

Anonymous, 09 Apr 2020Chine bramds always compare against iphone. Huh. Wonder why they didnt use night mode on both.

AnonD-909757, 09 Apr 2020I don't know what peoples really want/desire, but I am sure... moreAgreed. I generally like photos that comes as close to what I see with my own eyes as possible. Anything else is an interpretation. At this point, nobody is breaking out of the pack with their camera and I don't believe night mode is going to sway anybody to buy a phone over another.

I like this photo from OnePlus but they are comparing it against a bad photo. That has to be a iphone or a pixel. Likely an iphone. It should be compared against Huawei or Samsung.

The telephoto samples are just crops of the other images. Look at the cars, they are at the exact same spot.

Anonymous, 10 Apr 2020How about Wide rgb + wide mono, ultra wide rgb + ultra wid... moreThats gonna sacrificed a lot of space lol. Well, RYYB on P40 pretty mature now (color science better), achieve excellent lowlight without even using Night Mod.

UWA lens can take advantage on macro, pretty much like last Mate 20 & P30, but they ditch it since Mate 30. These are some of my macro samples taken using Mate 20 - https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1C3GixmJhB6aIGHFw7o5tf1yblJdptYgR

ToF is needed, nonetheless. Its one of the recipe that lowlight performance become great, speedy AF in harsh situation, when conventional Dual Pixel cant pickup. Plus loves the creamy bokeh (yeah although its fake) produced. Micmiking FF sensor & actually results sometimes can be great.

RYYB cmos will catch 40% more light than RGGB.
Monochrome will catch 200% more than RGGB.

Nokia 9 failed, because in theory should beat 1" .

It's nearly impossible to surprise come one with night mode. Everybody have it now. Even mid range phones. I'd rather have fast wireless charging than that bloody night mode. OnePlus is missing the point.

These lowlights are taken on my vanilla Mate 20 (1/2.3" sensor). Yeah u can see oil-painting on those buildings pics, because using 20 sec Night Mod (since hardware limited, unlike Pro variant). Only emerge when pixel peeping. Without pixel peep, I still satisfied by its overall quality. - https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1G6pGLkM080m8BKbCaiLZoWBfJoUOku0u

Anonymous, 09 Apr 2020To make night mode, there is no need to turn night into day. Exactly, that why I don't understand why they don't first focus on making a real life looking level of light "natural night mode" and then, add a enhanced night vision for when the art aspect doesn't matter and you just want to get a picture of something in low light conditions...

There are certain night modes which are excellent for extracting most light and detail even in pitch dark situations. This is where option to have natural night mode completely fails.
