Anonymous, 18 Apr 2020Anand tech has been incredibly Apple biased over the years.... moreMy wife was so impressed by my Samsung Galaxy S that she traded her iPhone 3G in for a Samsung Galaxy S2 when it launched. She never owned an iPhone again. I'm not sure if they are biased, or just real tech guys that aren't swayed by the opinions of hipsters and teenagers.

RishiGuru, 18 Apr 2020I have lost a lot of faith on Mediatek chipsets recently. W... moreThis article on Anandtech makes me laugh!
Talking about 30 to 75% with task scheduler...for so called specialists! That's not serious

1st, the only benchmark Anandtech tests is PCMark...it's very easy to disable "cheating" without calling so called developers : install a clone-app from the play store, package name won't be recognized on clone (doesn't work with the built-in clone-app on Xiaomi)
2nd without cheating, PCMark forgets to use big cores on any big.LITTLE or decacore configuration I have tested? Do your think such a behavior is normal? Maybe, OK then see my third point.
3rd, lets compare PCMark's webbrowsing (part of the test with one of the biggest difference) with real browsing task...easy test : open a webbrowser, load Mozilla Kraken, launch the test...on a Redmi Note 8 Pro you will get 3300ms result...this time fit with Cortex A76...conclusion PCMark doesn't fit with reality. On several test I find a single device, on a single browser with the same behavior.

                              Easy to do, not done!

                              A) Anandtech should do complete tests before spitting on a company
                              B) UL should test and repair PCMark. This one doesn't work properly, not only on Mediatek, but on Rockchip (no video hardware acceleration on Rk3288...this one can't open a single video on PCMark Work (v1) when it decodes 4k/h265 on any video player)

                              True, there's cheating
But it lead to maybe 5% extra-score.
The real problem is PCMark that heavilly trolls Mediatek's performances...

IpsDisplay, 18 Apr 2020Seeing that the Poco X2 has one the most color accurate scr... moreI have lost a lot of faith on Mediatek chipsets recently. With tech editors of Anandtech website revealing how Mediatek is currently cheating on benchmark scores, it is of no surprise PCMark and 3DMark have recently de-registered more than 50 current devices running on Mediatek chipsets. This includes any phone running with P20, P60, P70, P65, G70, G80, P90, G90 and G90T. This a major blow for Mediatek and very well end up in lawsuit. Below is the current statement from UL, the developers of the PCMark and 3DMark:

Using hidden mechanisms to detect benchmarking apps by name and make app-specific performance optimizations is not an "accepted industry standard." It is, in fact, the very opposite of the accepted standard.

Likewise, benchmark scores based on hidden app-specific optimizations and settings that are enabled by default and not available to the user do not accurately reflect a device's true performance in everyday use.

Simply put, a device must run a benchmark as if it was any other application. Performance gains must come from reacting to the nature of the workloads in the test rather than the name of the app itself.

As it has with similar cases in the past, we hope this delisting will help persuade MediaTek to change its approach and join the rest of the industry in adopting benchmarking best practices.

Plus the dimensity 800 is considerably stronger than the 730

Pretty nice looking, unfortunately yet another large phone.
